Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I wish music could be that fun again. Rasputin is one of the greatest things to come out of that decade
There's tons of new music that's fun like this.

The big difficulty is getting out of the trap -- one created by brain chemistry in your mid-20s, in fact, so no blame on anyone for falling into this -- that all music created after you were 25 or so is not as good as what you listened to from ages 12-25 or so.

I agree there has been fun music since and was using a little hyperbole (also I was only like two when that song came out and only found out about its existence in my mid-40s, so I doubt the 20-year old brain chemistry thing applied to my response to it). The feeling behind the sentiment was more about music being more in the center of the shared culture and media landscape and the particular style of 70s music than a comment on music today

As I'm getting into my early 30's I'm trying not to fall into this trap. A decade, to fifteen years ago I was obsessed with new music. Constantly discovering new bands or artists, digging through the underground to find the next cool thing.

Warning.. If you give K-Pop a chance.. It does not take too long to get hooked. Before I knew it I had surpassed the threshold of listening "Ironically" to knowing what a "Bias" is and being excited for girl group come-backs.

My wife loves K Pop so I catch some of it through her (and picked up some early k pop when I was doing TKD). My view on the whole ironic thing: there is no such thing as ironically enjoying music. She is very into Lalisa and Black Pink right now. I mean yes, a handful of people may do that. But I think when people say they like something ironically it really just means they like it but feel some guilt or shame or sense of being uncool so it is more of a self deception or cover for genuine enjoyment

Amen!

Personally, MTV University is one of my main channels. For those who don’t know, it’s essentially what MTV was in its infancy: videos all the way down.

And for the most part, it’s new stuff. Occasionally, you’ll get a throwback, but that’s mainly reserved for MTV Classic (which, FYI, is also videos only).

My only problem with K-Pop is the same problem I had when Boy Bands and Girl Bands were huge: too much of it sounds the same.

But history is repeating- or at least rhyming with- itself again. Just like then, certain performers are starting to distinguish themselves from their bands and emerge as solo artists. Jungkook is currently following the same path as Justin Timberlake, Harry Styles and others had done before him, just as they themselves echoed Michael Jackson.

I usually listen to my local station The Current 89.3 which has a stream I highly recommend.

Though I say some classic MTV recently that had Sting and then Fun loving criminals Scooby Snacks which really brought back some memories.
