D&D General Bob World Builder Recreates WOTC's "Do You Like Me?" Survey!

And I would assume you would have the same feeling if I put a handcam recorded copy of Deadpool and Wolverine on my YouTube channel and Disney cracked down on me? I mean, an 4k quality version will be on the web in a few months, so why come crashing down on their fans?
Yep. Someone once tried to show me one of those once. I walked out in the middle. If people want to torture themselves, go for it. The vast majority of folks will pay for the movie or streaming service.

Wait...

' Release a product for money in the expected format' counts toward building good will? Public relations is easy. Why do people get paid to do it?
With all the videos going around about them only ever publishing books on D&D Beyond? Yeah. I think it counts.

Here’s why I think that’s important. No matter how they try to enshittify D&D, we always have the books.

I don't think it's a guarantee. Or at least, we won't have "everything" in print (there will certainly be attempts to have exclusive species, classes, etc, on DND Beyond).
So I won't be supporting Hasbro D&D.
My dream: Maybe one day it tanks enough to get licensed to a third party who cares about customers.
In the meantime, I should figure out what my fantasy RPG of choice to replace D&D will be.

If D&D ever tanks to that level, there won't be anyone left to play it with.

I get the fantasy of your favorite X, unburdened by the need of capitalism, in the hands of loving and devoted fans with the resources to make the best product available. But that's never going to happen. Not for DC comics. Not for Star Wars, not for D&D. Even if the brand utterly collapsed, they would simply cut their losses and vault it. After all, nostalgia t shirts pumped out for perpetuity is far more money than any passionate group of fans could raise for the rights.

So I wish you good luck finding your D&D replacement. Hope something calls to you out there..

Yep, there are already D&D Beyond exclusive monsters (half of the Monstrous Compendiums, for example), so that next step seems inevitable.

That said, to be fair, there were also non-print 5e products on DM Guild before that, including monsters and species options. But those were in PDF and therefore designed for use off the site. (And some are POD.)

EDIT: Sidenote. Just learned the Elemental Evil Player's Companion doesn't come up in searches on DM Guild anymore, though it does come up readily on DriveThruRPG. To get to the DM Guild version you have to use a direct link. Interesting.

Yeah. A few things on that list would likely have been done anyway and mean profit for the company. Some of it was nice and I wasn't aware of those things. I disagree that it was a lot done to foster good will, but at least there was some stuff done.

I have to admit to not watching much in the way of D&D videos. It's only really Matt Colville and even that has dropped off since he nearly stopped putting out his videos on running the game.

Given the sheer amount of print products put out for 5e, it floors me that anyone would think that they only ever publish books on D&D Beyond or would only publish books there in the future, let alone make videos about it.

Aren't there already RPGs out there with companies that care more than Hasbruh does? Doesn't the 5RD already make D&D freely available, if for some reason you don't know about the above companies and RPGs?

In the meantime, I should figure out what my fantasy RPG of choice to replace D&D will be.
Watch the ENnies. Some good candidates there!
