And the WW2 festival doesn’t actually involve getting bombed.
it’s not about what it involves, but about what they tell you WW2 was.

If your players are interested in KotB then that is what they should play, if only to learn about it. Playing something rather different with a similar name is not really telling them about the history of D&D or that module.

If I want to learn about the middle ages, I cannot just read LotR either, just because both have wars and knights

I don’t understand the gatekeeping attitude that would rather let things rot than let young people play with them.
oh, I am fine with them playing whatever, I just don’t think they should be misled into believing that the new starter set is identical to KotB, with prettier maps and stat blocks for 5e

So if they are interested in what the early game was like, the original is far more representative of that. If they just want to have a good time, play whatever you prefer

So what would you call it? I don’t care, I just know people like old stuff, especially with the crap removed.

Like what you like and play the way you want.
I’m not important enough to be left alone keeping a gate.

Nostalgia has a meaning and as I understand that meaning it involves remembering something from your own past. I’m pretty dumb though so…I might be wrong.

I don’t see a problem with that. It’s a business, it’s about giving people what they want in exchange for money, not preserving crap for old men.

So is it nostalgia (you know, for old men) is it a reflection of history (nope, its 100% going to retcon the module) or is it just yet another example of Wizards making a cheap play on its back catalog, effectively erasing its history, to shovel out something with as little new work as possible, for the new player base without making any waves?

So what would you call your objection?

My objection is with the eventual erasure of the actual history, replacing it with a kid friendly version. I'm not gatekeeping anything, again, go play it.
