D&D General Dmg previews up

They probably needed to explain who Asmodeus is, he has a bunch of weight through out D&D's history and Devils are a big thing in the cosmology of D&D.
Right. It’s not the putting it in the DMG that looks weird. It’s the idea of removing it from the MM that would be weird.

You can mention it briefly and refer readers to the MM. That's how it always worked, and I never saw an issue with that. Lore mostly lives in the setting and threat books anyway.

The DMG has never been primarily a primer for brand new DMs. I don't know why they would make it so now rather than just use a starter set for that. There is a system in place.
They've also stated they've never seen the PHB as a primer for new players as it was supposed to be the starter set. But changed that policy with the new PHB, as it now has a "how to play" chapter.

Right, and I'm saying that the best person to write those rules is the DM of the game that wants to use them, not WotC. Providing a set of 'official' variants works against the desire to give the game to the table that it's being played at.
I strongly disagree. DMs are not professional game designers.

Give me some official variants, please. It doesn't have to be exhaustive and cover every little situation, but at least something to tweak pacing and difficulty.

Unfortunate IMO, as it ultimately makes all the books less useful for experienced players, who still need them but are getting less utility (and thus less bang for their buck) then they did before.

I know, we have discussed this before. However, these books (2024 core books) are not for you for a number of reasons.
They sure aren't! Amazing what a difference a few years and being financially successful can do to what used to be an exciting must-buy for me.

I'm not the one who changed.
