Yes. Without any doubt.

As was proved by many people. Known fact for centuries.

But hey. People doubt that the world is a globe. So...
I feel like that’s a bit of a lopsided comparison. You have to twist logic in absurd knots denying countless basic observable phenomena to actually come to the conclusion that Earth is flat. But .999 being equal to 1, while objectively true, is extremely unintuitive and requires complex mathematical proof to demonstrate, and it still feels wrong.

Thats the thing about math though, it’s entire purpose is to describe real phenomena that our brains aren’t built to grasp intuitively.

No. The proofs are not that complex.
A few of them are very easy.

While wikipedia is not always a reliable source, this link should give some insight:

It is not its entire purpose...

but now we are getting way off topic.

Complex is a relative term. Is it complex for someone with, say, a high school level ability in mathematics? No. Is it complex for the average adult who has been out of academia for several years? I would say absolutely.

Sure, not its entire purpose. I would argue it is it’s primary purpose though.

You also win the prize for not grokking the part I was responding to was the question posed by "Still worthwhile to point out that..."

@occam got it. I feel seen.

Hmmh. Some proofs that are convincong enough are 8th grade math at most.

Maybe I misunderstand you, but the primary focus of math is math itself, or gain of knowledge. Not as an auxiliary for other things.
The knowledge gained might be used as auxiliary for other science though.
