5E inflated the hit points then inflated magical healing for a problem 5E created.
3E problem was selling magic items to PCs willy nilly. Same with 4E.
3E onwards they've inflated the damage of two handed weapons via power attack, 50% strength boost, 2W, 3W etc or the -5/+10 feats.
3.5e expected to not get hit that often and have less HP recovery(outisde wands) and your HP pool should last few battles.
5E is expecting that you get beaten to inch of your life every combat and then get healed after. Or was it that 1st in 4E?
also, 2Handed weapons should deal lots of damage, that is why they are in the game.
