D&D General You Can Now Make Greyhawk Stuff On DM's Guild!

Greyhawk_Legacy.png

As of today, third party creators can publish and sell material set in the World of Greyhawk! Dating back to the dawn of Dungeons & Dragons, Greyhawk has an entire chapter devoted to it in the new 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide.

Right now you can check out some legacy official content from Wizards of the Coast, but expect more to start appearing there as soon as the third party creators get their teeth into it.

As of yet I have no desire to make money off D&D. What I make I offer it freely here and un the UA reddit. If I do decided I would like to make money (or at least recoup costs), it will likely not be on the Guild as I am generally not interested in WotC IP. If that stance changes, then on the Guild it will go. Clear and simple from my perspective.
I want to take the time to say thanks for your epic monster thread, fantastic stuff!

I'm sure there's going to be a number of new Greyhawk supplements on DMsGuild, but from what I've gleaned over the years, the thing that people love about the setting is that there wasn't a lot of material for it which gave the DMs of the time the opportunity to really develop it in their own way. Is this still the case or is that more of an old vs. new mentality (this might actually be a 1e vs 2e onwards with the amount of setting info that was created back then).
There's definitely a big divide between the people who like the wide open creative spaces of the 1E (and I guess 5E) versions, versus the much more detailed 2E take on things.

For myself, I actually avoided picking up the 2E books when I became aware of them specifically because I didn't trust TSR to come up with better stuff than I could on my own. (The terrible Greyhawk Adventures hardcover they released was responsible for this, even before the boxed sets came out and trashed and rebooted the setting.)

I choose to interpret the announcement as: you can now make Blackmoor stuff on DMs Guild.

Flanaess includes the Blackmoor region, now called Arn (Arneson). It is great for Arneson campaigns stuff too.

DMsGuild creators are allowed to use the following official Dungeons & Dragons settings:

  • Forgotten Realms
  • Ravenloft
  • Eberron
  • Spelljammer
  • Planescape
  • Dragonlance
  • Radiant Citadel
  • The Magic: The Gathering settings of:
    • Ravnica
    • Theros
    • Arcavios/Strixhaven
  • Greyhawk
I assume yes, but does this permission allow Guilders to mix-and-match settings? Such as: a Strixhaven campus in Greyhawk, or a Radiant Citadel portal into Dragonlance?

I mean, for me you can put Greyhawk and the Forgotten Realms in that bucket: only barely aware of them prior to 2014.
Yeah, for DMs who homebrewed settings, none of the "official" settings had relevance. They tended to use the adventures tho, so some of the official setting implications bled into the homebrews (such as Drow and so on).

Makes sure to refer to your content as taking place in Arn, unless you choose to get a call from lawyers representing Arneson's estate.
