Out of boredom a few minutes ago I generated A Dnd Character and I ended up making the most powerful I've ever made. Take a look

When I rolled stats I got to roll 3D6 6 times, assign the results as I want then add +1 to every stat

I rolled 2 16s, 2 15's, 1 17 and 1 7, so including racial modifiers I went for A Cavalier with Strength 18, Constitution 17, Dexterity 17, Intelligence 16, Wisdom 16 and Charisma 8

I went for A Cavalier

For his 1D10+5 Health Points he ended up with 14

For his social status he ended up with Lower-Upper

He's the oldest son and heir of A Senior Baron ruling A Large Barony

The domain he will 1 day rule is as follows

The title is Senior Baron that rules A Large Barony

In it is A decent sized fortified Manor House, 1 village that has 167 people in it, 4 very large fishing communities that all have 50 people in them, 5 fairly large villages that all have 150 people in them, 10 very large farming communities that all have 50 people in them and 22 fairly large farms that all have 10 people on them

The civilian militia was created because my character knows that their aren't enough professional soldiers to defend everywhere at the same time and the civilian militia have been given extensive training in aggressive defence

This way on the occasions when the professional soldiers can't come to their aide quick enough the civilian militia can defend the area until the professional soldiers come to their aide

That means that my Manor House has 56.5 unskilled servants that are rounded up to 57 unskilled servants

Since commoners can volunteer to work for a popular lord but they don’t have to and I have done 4 exceptional deeds I rolled to see if my families popular enough to get extra workers and A 12 on 2D10 followed by A 9 on 1D12 means he has 4D2 unskilled Servants more then normal, which means I can have up to 65 unskilled servants

Rolls show that they are 30 general purpose, 9 cooks, 9 gardeners, 7 grooms for the horse’s, 3 entertainers, 3 scribes, 1 head of staff, 1 barber, 1 butler and 1 doorman

Its just occurred to me that depending on your definition of unskilled my characters household servants could have quite a bit of training but not enough for them to meet the minimum level of training needed to count as semi-skilled servants

Its similiar to how in Harry Potter A Acceptable Grade in Potions means that you have a lot of training in Potions but only not enough to count as Semi Skilled, so your unfairly classed as unskilled

Your thoughts on the opening scene from A Harry Potter themed Dnd Campaign of mine, naturally I'm borrowing characters from other sources to make it a "for a laugh campaign"

Its from the perspective of a unknown female, who we later learn is Hermione Granger, that's the deputy head, head of Gryfindor House and Transfiguration teacher but isn't Mcgonacal who currently holds all 3 positions and don't just analyse it

The students in front of her were still clad in four different uniforms, symbolizing their Houses, yet they mingled with each other. Slytherins sat with the lions of Gryffindor, joined on the side by the ravens of Ravenclaw

They all sat together, irrespective of their houses, and chatted with each other, with several glances inching towards her as they whispered about her, just as she had once done for her own professors

Yet the students in front of her weren't just humans, there were Veela's, Hags, Vampires, Goblins and Werewolves among them

Their was even a few dozen aliens, each with obvious signs of their extra-terrestrial origins, and a few dozen half aliens, each with obvious signs of their half alien heritage, among them

She looked at Aleita Hopper The Angelan whose most obvious sign of her alien heritage was her shimmering white wings, famous as Hogwarts 1st alien student, 1st alien prefect, 1st alien head girl and widely known ambition to be The Wizarding Worlds 1st alien head of state

She gives herself a smile and says to herself “I can never truly express how proud I am that Hogwarts 1st alien student was sorted into Gryfindor, the house I am head of, and in the same year I became head of Gryfindor in”

Her gaze moved to Raphtalia Iwatani, the alien from The Racoon Demi Human Race, her 2 most notable alien features being her bushy Racoon Tail and having fur rather then hair, it was known that her ambition was to be Hogwarts 1st alien headmistress

Now her gaze moved to Sabine Wren, the half alien that was half human/half Mandolorian, the most obvious sign of her half alien heritage was her greyish brown skin, it was known that her ambition was to be The 1st half alien to be head of The Auror Department

She says “I really should tell Aleita, Raphtalia and Sabine that despite all the advantages in equality The Wizarding World has seen in the last 10 years that The Wizarding World won’t accept its 1st alien head of state, 1st alien Headmistress of Hogwarts or 1st half alien to be head of The Auror Department”

Pause for thought then “then again considering that Magical Folk only leant about aliens 9 years ago maybe I should give equality in The Wizarding World more credit maybe it just needs more time, after all aliens were only confirmed to exist 9 years ago, so maybe Aleita, Raphtalia and Sabine can achieve their ambitions”

Now her gaze moves to Yuki Yamato, the half alien that was half human/half Iskandran, the 2 most obvious signs of her half alien heritage was her yellow skin and yellow eyes, she thinks “her ambition of creating A Cure for Werewolfism is achievable

Their was even A Malfroy in Gryfindor, 3 Weasley's in Slytherin, A member of The Grabbe Family(A family not known for its intelligence) in Ravenclaw(The house known for valuing intelligence), and a dozen Muggleborns in Slytherin, all 4 of which are things that a mere 5 years ago people would have laughed at and called impossible

Looking over at Professor Aleita Schafaer she thinks “theirs even A Muggle teaching Muggle Studies, true The Muggle that teaches Muggle Studies must be either the mother or the father of A Muggleborn Witch or Wizard or married to a witch or wizard but the mere fact that theirs A Muggle teaching at Hogwarts is a massive step forwards”

She thinks of how theirs talks of opening other subjects to Muggles and how the only subjects that can realistically be opened to Muggles with a lot of changes are Muggle Studies, Potions, Astrology and Herbology

She think of how this isn’t because of bias, racism, bigoty, prejudice or something similar, rather its because most other subjects can’t be done by Muggles because either they require magic or are too dangerous or they require magic and are too dangerous

What do you think of the later revelation that the reason for Orions long years is that she's A Alien from The Enterran Race, A Race that even though they can be killed are immune to the passing of time, which is why she's around 15,000 years old? and what do you think of how her actions are motivated by boredom not evil, being almost 15,000 years old and immune to the passage of time gets boring, and once she's gotten bored she indirectly causes the downfall of the 1 she helped, such as using alien magic to help Harry figure out their was a horcrux at Gringotts, help Hermione think of Polyjuice Potion using Belltrixs Hair and help Harry realize their was a horcrux at Hogwarts

Nothing wrong with it but it depends on the players.
I generally use a 1 page set up for a players guide.

1-2 paragraphs outlines the overall arc. Eg "due to the recent events in Baldurs Gate the Ebon Triad a heretical group of followers of the dead 3......"

Then I'll list roughly what to expect. This is so players have a rough idea what to pick race wise.

Character development generally goes into the first adventure. 3-6 NPCs for new players maybe double that for experienced ones.

Really depends on the players though abd how well you know them. I'll default to beer and pretzels if I don't know them that well (eg internet or gamestore recruits).
