When Do the 5E “Ride or Die” Folks Become Grogs Like The Rest of Us in “D&D Older Editions” And When Do We Get D&D 5E Flair for Posts?

Oh yeah, I specifically meant places to easily discuss on ENWorld.

I am fortunate with built in groups—-my kids and lifelong pals all of whom take turns DMing! Of course we are so busy it never happens enough.

I am not worried about losing games but really value talking about it here on ENworld.

Just hoping some will still want to talk about 5.0. Already with the discussion of new exploits or builds I am non participatory.

Maybe folks will still want to discuss. I was not online for
The 3.0 to 3.5 shift so maybe I am “worried” about nothing
Right now 2024 is hot off the press so its getting all the attention. Naturally, there is a lot to talk about. Eventually, it will die down and you'll get a little more 2014 talk. However, eventually most folks will move on and you shouldn't expect 2014 threads to be well attended.

I don't think it matters what the current global trend is thanks to the internet and its' various search engines. If you know where to look on the net, you can find and join an RPG group that is playing any edition of D&D.
Yeah that's true. It can be tough if you have in-person players who don't want to play your game though. My wife hates OSR style play, for example.

No, no no! The warlord is just living on a big beautiful farm.
I'll have to play one the next time I'm in a campaign. The last 4E game I played in, a few years back, I played a Skald. Which is somewhat close.

To me, the elimination of race as a factor in character build is the biggest functional change to the game since AD&D ended the D&D "race as class" mechanic and was really the biggest mechanical difference between the various numbered editions of D&D and the B/X & BECMI games which were really the truest decedents of OD&D and Chainmail. I suppose the 3x3 alignment matrix was also different, but it was as irrelevant to the mechanics of the game as it still is today.

It may not really matter that much, but it is a pretty big shift in the flavor of the game.
Race as class was introduced with the Moldvay Basic set in 1981, two years after the third AD&D core book came out.

Im guessing it will be like 3.5E. At first, a few die hards will be letting everyone know every chance they can get. Just about everybody else will just move over as campaigns end and new ones start.
Very likely.

They pretty much are to me. If and when I run 5e, I might bring a few minor things here and there from 2024 like I do from other editions, but, for the most part, the 2024 PHB will be banned.
I'm sure every table and DM will handle it differently. For me, they're one edition, I couldn't care less which PHB (or both) you pick your options from. I mean, if you're picking from the PHB, you're already ignoring a bunch of superior 3pp material anyway. :)
