The fact that 5.2024 did not cause a schism where the new fans turned on the old fans with savage fury proves the hypocrisy of the anti-4e crowd.

First, the idea that there are no schisms related to 2024 at this stage feels like criminally negligent optimism.

Second, it is possible that this kind of ambassadorship (especially so early in a thread that hasn't previously mentioned 4e) may contribute to reactions from a so-called anti-4e crowd.

As for the OP, I think we need some more time to tell how 5e and 5e 2024 interact in the wild. Historically, I can tell you when 3.5e came out ENWorld did not have to segregate the rules update stuff very much. For example, there were not separate 3.0 and 3.5 Rules forums; 3.0 was still discussed in the main Rules forum, and it wasn't an issue.

Honestly, it's too soon to tell.

I'm old enough to remember the "I'll never switch to 3.5" crowd all quietly ... switching to 3.5, except for one or two posters who still bought 3.5 books to swipe from anyway.

On the other hand, the people who predicted the same would happen with 4E were clearly proven wrong.

But right now, before the Monster Manual is out, not to mention the rest of the 2025 books, which are clearly intended to on-ramp everyone into the new edition, no one can truly say for sure what's going to happen.

I do particularly enjoy the thread in the main D&D forum titled "Ranger 2024 is a bigger joke than Ranger 2014:". Because if there's one thing that epitomizes edition warring, it's arguing over the Ranger.

(I guess also the Warlord, but he got taken out back and shot after 4e, so....)

Anyway I'll be here with my popcorn and my giant "We're #4!" foam finger.
