Not an excuse IMO to remove material people could use.

It feels like it comes down to what "core" means a little bit?

Is it more important that one of the Core books tries to do a better job of explaining to new DMs how to run the game, or more important that it gives ideas that are useful to people that have been playing it for decades?

I mean, I would certainly like those cool ideas, but I'm not sure I'd try to shoehorn them in?

Same for me. If they want to make the DMG the Intro To DMing book that's fine by me, I'm already using A5E for most of my games- but I do like the Bastion rules as a foundation to build on.

The 2024 DMG just isn't a book targeted at experienced DMs. Both A5E and ToV books really are superior in that respect.
Probably. But are they as good in the other one?

The DMG if it included everything everyone wanted. ;)

I liked many optional rules. And still did not use them.

The one I am most sad about is alternate healing rules.
But now that I have read many parts of the DMG* I have found a lot of those optional rules in some places.

*I can't read a pdf cover to cover easily. So I had to wait till today where I got my print version to really dig into it.

To me, the problem is that WotC has clearly decided that "core" doesn't mean what it used to mean, and they haven't even bothered to use an edition breK to change that meaning.

Yeah, I'm still a bit sore about it.
