Do you think it's fair to say someone has a considered favorite if 95% of their play experience has been one game?

If they have been exposed to other options and are choosing for that 95% of their experience to be in one game...yes.

If my favorite ice cream continues to be strawberry and I've tried chocolate, vanilla, pistachio and say another 10-15 flavors throughout my life (whether a whole cup or a sample spoon) but have eaten and enjoyed Strawberry 95% more than any other particular flavor... are you saying for some reason I shouldn't claim strawberry ice cream is my favorite?

But that goes back to nothing is ever truly your favorite because after all there's always something better out there. It's a pointless saying.

I also disagree. Saying "2nd most favorite" means that the person actually has a #1 favorite that isn't D&D.

Everyone has a game that would probably fit their preferences better, but the opportunity cost to find it is generally too high.

If Strawberry is the only flavor they sell at the local store, and all the other flavors I have to drive 2 hours to get, you can certainly say you eat more Strawberry than anything else but it's certainly not your favorite.

Correct. You can certainly have a current favorite, insisting on an absolute favorite would be ridiculous.

The relative accessibility of the store is comparable to the relative ease of starting a 5e game for the average player, compared to the difficulty of getting a bunch of people to embrace learning a new, unfamiliar rule set.
