Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

All jokes aside, I really wonder this every time threads go on and on about players needing to be protected from bad DMs and DMs needing to be empowered. Just play with people you like and don't be a jerk and whatever is in the books doesn't matter. It's not hard.
Unless those books say 4e on them!

My favorite "cursed" magic items to place in my games are just regular magic items that function as intended, but also have unfortunate drawbacks.
  • A flame tongue longsword that bestows 1 level of exhaustion on you whenever you score a critical hit (or roll a 1).
  • A rod of the pact keeper +3 that requires three attunement slots.
  • A potion of supreme healing that gives you the Poisoned condition (or lycanthropy, or vampirism) when you drink it.
  • A wand of magic missiles that chooses its own targets at random.
  • A mislabeled scroll of raise dead that actually reincarnates the recipient into a random body.
  • A ring of invisibility that makes its wearer smell terrible (or delicious)
And so forth.

Not here. But wow...

Playing with friends removes the need for 90% of the silliness we see these days. While not everyone has friends interested in gaming, I think "no gaming is better than bad gaming" is probably more said than done.

That thread is reaching 6 pack of Zima right about now.
What does that even mean? The thread is regressing to the late 1980s and early 1990s? Getting some Dragonlance and Spelljammer discussions rolling? a little bit of Dark Sun up in there, maybe?

Sign me up. I'll totally crack open a Zima and holler about Athas with y'all.
