Back in the days in our local Chinatown you could find things like cafes which on the outside said barber shop, beauty saloons behind a grocery sign, etc. These were places that catered mostly to the Chinese community, so there was usually some window sign in Chinese which said what the business was actually about, but it made for some disconnecting sights.Sometimes the explanation is something you'd never consider. I once asked the owners of a Toronto Thai restaurant, that's popular with university students, why they named the place "Salad King." The husband answered, "Sign was on building when we buy. New sign too expensive."
