Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

So its not located within the Maw or off via a wormhole only accessible from there currently?
No, and I don’t think it’s even in a nebula. I think there is just a cloudy shield around the planet. The cloudiness is either generated by the devices with red lights hidden within it or is masking those devices, which serve some other purpose. (It seems unlikely they are weapons or else the Onyx Cinder would’ve been shot at for passing through the Barrier illegally.)

Unless the ship had some defence against the barrier. It is a pirate ship after all, and if the original crew knew about the barrier, they may have rigged some countermeasures to get them through.

Most likely, though, I think it is just a disguise - something that doesn't hide the planet, but makes it look like something uninhabitable.

Or only works against inbound traffic, but not outbound ships.

Well, one of the droids, or someone, said that no ships were allowed to enter or leave through the barrier, so it there were any anti-ship defenses, I think they would have been triggered, assuming they are in proper working order, that is.

Some interesting ideas in this Reddit thread: Unraveling the Mystery of At Attin: An Analysis

Apparently Fern’s badge says “Prefect” on it. That fits with the “head of the class” statement. I appreciate little details like this.

Did anyone else notice Kh’ymm’s mention of “proto-Republic artifacts”? Those sound ancient, whatever they are.

Also, I had assumed Port Borgo was a new location like At Attin but apparently it comes from an old Legends novel.
There are a couple of bizarre things re: Kh'ymm's evidence here.

1) The scroll she pulls out seems like it's truly ancient and also in a very old-fashioned-vibes style. What it's not, is in a previously-seen High Republic style (though it is similar to some of the stuff in the houses on At Attin). This could well be down to artistic licence/the visual designers not entirely thinking this one through, of course. Maybe they were aiming for Art Noveau (which the house decorations look more like) but kind of hit early Renaissance with the scroll.

Notably paper was considered outdated in the High Republic era, too - to the point where it's actually called out in one of the canon High Republic novels (Path of Vengeance).

So this is weird. Because the Great Works are definitely a High Republic-era deal, and everything about At Attin has vaguely High Republic vibes, but why is there a weird nigh-medieval-looking paper thing about the Great Works? Again possibly just artistic licence but odd, especially as one thing any nerd knows is that paper is a thing that's not generally in Star Wars, and where it does appear, it's for truly ancient things, like old Jedi teachings which aren't in a holocron.

2) Re: "Proto-Republic artifacts", this calls into question either Kh'ymm's competence/sanity, or the whole notion that this is the High Republic. Maybe by "proto-Republic", she just means "before the New Republic", but that doesn't make sense for the word "proto", you'd say "previous Republic" or "pre-New Republic" or similar. So maybe this is supposed to indicate we're looking at something much more ancient? But I don't think so.

This whole bit is a little odd. Also somewhat skeptical that the coordinates she came up with are actually going to turn out to be At Attin.

Maybe the map refers to the “jewels of the republic” but dates from long before they were hidden/destroyed, and makes no mention of “great works”.

Imagine if one of those worlds is Ilum, for example. It was known, and then hidden at the request of the Jedi.

Also, if the hiding involved deleting all digital references, then the map might have only survived because it was on paper*.

*I suppose it was intended to look like animal skin.

In terms of realism, I believe it would be rare for a paper/animal skin document to survive in such good condition for more than a few hundred years.

Why isn't it digital? Well it doesn't look like it was ever intended to be a useable map, maybe it was a piece of artwork that once hung in an administrators office?

The real skeleton crew

That was an interesting episode!

I wonder if having all nine jewel planets be At A-something is a stylistic thing or if there is meaning behind it. (We’ve got the names of six of them now: At Attin, At Achrann, At Aytuu, At Aravin, At Arissia, and At Acoda.)

It would also seem that they were all built to be identical. Makes me think it was some kind of social experiment. Or maybe each planet specialized in something different?

And with SM-33’s previous planet having destroyed the coordinates to At Attin along with his own crew makes me think that At Attin’s Supervisor will indeed turn out to be that captain. He may even have been the one who destroyed all the other planets in order to hide any trace of At Attin so he could have it for himself and then buried his ship along with SM-33 after arriving. (EDIT: No, At Achrann was already a dangerous place last time SM-33 was there, so it was already “destroyed”. My money’s still on the Nihil, unless it was a VaultTec style social experiment in which the society collapsed into warring clans for some reason.)

The mystery continues!
