Legend
Yeah so? I'm not seeing the issue here.
The real issue is that it isn't based on a 00s or 10s TV show(anime specifically) at this day and age.
I don't think animal is helping to gonv8nce the monk haters

Unlike sorcerers, who are based on cheesy 60s comic books? They not based on real life though. D&D ones based on cheesy 70s TV show.
I am to Monks as Snarf is to Bards.

But it is fair to observe that the inspiration for the D&D monk was American, not Asian.
Neither am I, but I know enough to be aware that the sorcerer class is pretty much inspired by X-Men. Magic acquired from studying books (wizard) and binding spirits (warlock) can be traced thematically to 17th century Europe, but "I haz innate powerz" (also includes psionics) is very 60s America. No idea never been into American comic books.
I feel compelled to point out here that bards have dance based martial arts. All that remains is to organize them into monastic orders...Elves having dance based martial arts, and orders that study and further them can fit easily into most fantasy.
Monk...monastery. It's literally part of the name?I really don't get what this obsession with "monastic orders" is. It's not part of the rules, it's not part of the fluff. It's not even part of history - itinerant friars and wandering mystics have always been a thing. Why can't the player decide for themselves how they acquired their abilities? why must it be tied to some organisation?
It’s not true though. There has never been a requirement that monks should live in a monastery. It’s a false connection, like saying warlocks should be able to pick locks because the word “lock” is in the name.Monk...monastery. It's literally part of the name?
