would you say that about Canon and Lama for the Cleric or Chevalier and Justiciar of the paladin (who at 9th level actually gets the title Paladin...)?

Let alone something as innovative as the titles for the Ranger, namely Runner, Strider, Scout, Courser, Tracker, Guide, Pathfinder, Ranger, Ranger Knight, and Ranger Lord... if that is not a sign of running out of ideas, I do not know what is

They are descriptive titles of the class... including mechanics... at said level. It certainly shows us what the designers thought the class was best represented but at that level.
Or perhaps Gary was going through a thesaurus. In fact, I vaguely recall a quote from him to that effect.
