Dragonbane general thread

Just downloaded the free starter, and .... I would love to have monsters so easy to run like this. Removes a lot of burden from the GM. Heck, you could play solo this way to a certain degree.....I'm not sure it would always be how I'd want to do it, as I think super smart monsters would pick their actions, but still, I like it.

There is a solo module in the Core Set box and the GM can pick a monster attack or roll. The only limitation is no using the same monster attack twice in a row.

Maybe "GMs choice" should be one of the options.

Or, alternately, "If X is true then option 2, if Y is true then option 3, otherwise option 5"

Looking at the monster stat blocks again, I think I've found another minor quibble with the system. I think I'm up to 4-5 extremely minor issues now. That's kinda fantastic, I think.

The monster attacks spend a lot of words repeating things like "does not take your action" after forcing you to make a roll. If only there were some easy to use game-speak term to save them from having to write out "make this kind of roll as an automatic and free reaction when faced with this circumstance" dozens of times.

I don't know what that phrase is, but I'm sure it's out there somewhere and would save them time. (Yes, that's sarcasm.)

It would save maybe 100-150 words across the rulebook and Bestiary. But it is kinda silly they waste them.

After running a trial session with the pregens, my two kids made characters last night, rolling dice for Attributes but otherwise picking things. They both LOVED the option to pick "young", "adult", or "old" with different effects. One made a young Wolfkin Hunter, the other made an old Satyr Mage (Animist).

Agreed. "Not affected by armor" is another.

It's not the wasted word space, imo, but it takes more time to read at the table. Each second suspends the action.

I haven't actually shelled out for Dragonbane yet, but I'm still thinking about it.

If I do, I'm going to go whole hog and get all the books.
At least try the quickplay first. Some will find it a problematic system. Some players will say they're good with it before trying, and not after.
