D&D General Poll: Did you watch the D&D cartoon when it was new?

Did you watch the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon at any point during its original run?

Considering my age at the time would have been negative, no, I did not watch it while it was new.

The fact that the poll is so heavily skewed in favor of "yes"--nearly a three-to-one ratio!--does go somewhat toward explaining the characteristics I have observed in the ENWorld D&D community.

Is there a 15 year old player out there who started DMing when he was 10?

If you had asked me at the time, yes.

My friends and I started playing basic D&D (Errol Otus version) at age 9 — I remember this distinctly because the box said “for ages 10 and up”. So we felt super sophisticated.

My best friend Daniel and I immediately gravitated to the DM chair. So yes, we were DMing from age 10. Age 9, even. ;)

It should also be noted, while original run in USA was in early 80's, in other parts of the world, first run was much later. For instance, it aired on Cartoon Network in Europe first time in mid 90's. Unless you were in some specific countries like UK or Germany, CN was only way to watch it on tv, and that was if you were lucky enough to have satellite tv.

That many of us are cranky old grognards and want you to get off our lawn with your loud rock’n’roll music?
While I'm sure it's for self-effacing comedic effect, that seems harsh. But, yes, it does explain a good portion of why posters here have distinctly and sometimes exclusively old-school tastes and find much of "new school" to be...unwanted at best.

You say that like it’s some kind of astonishing revelation, but it’s well known that this forum (and the message board format in general) skews towards older age groups.
