Right now, Shadow of the Weird Wizard is in my sweet spot of D&D-like complexity. Simple math and bonus mechanics, but lots and lots of distinct, granular options.

How does that stack up against Level Up with regard to complexity?

Why? Pyrokinesis is a thing. Firestarter (1984 film) - Wikipedia

Telekinesis = psionic force

Pyrokinesis/Pyromancer = primal fire element = fire bender

Cryokinesis/Cryomancer = primal water element = water bender


Psionic and primal are two sides of the same "soul" coin.

Arcane and divine are two sides of the same "weave" coin.

Solidly less complex. Every check is d20+stat mod+boons (keep highest 1 of 1 to 3 d6). 10 levels, no feats.

Pick a beginner class and ancestry at 1, an intermediate class at 3, and advanced class at 7. No pre-reqs for later class picks, unlike 3e PrCs or 4e Paragon Paths.

Casting classes pick 1 or 2 spells when they level.

It isn't, really. It's D&D-like in play, it's definitely an evolution of the d20 engine, but it's also fairly distinct. Only 4 stats, stat mods are stat - 10, output math for attacks and defenses doesn't really match up.

Like trying to move a 3e feat to 5e, you can borrow ideas pretty liberally, but you have to rewire the underpinnings.
