General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

Star Wars problem is, they haven't created iconic characters since original trilogy. Only two exceptions are Maul and Grogu. Rest are just forgettable and unimportant. Vader, Han, Luke, Leia, Boba Fett, Yoda- they are iconic even today. Maul was cool, unique in design. Grogu is cute and so memable. Rey and crew? Not so much.

I suspect Gen Z will feel differently when they're old enough for adults to listen to them. I see a lot of BB-8 backpacks, even on older kids.

Oldest gen Z are closing in on 30. Never seen bb-8 backpack, but i've seen baby yoda one ( i have kindergarten age kid and live across from elementary school, so i see lot's of kids on daily basis and spend decent amount of time in kids stores).

Iconic characters are ones that span generation gap and just cross over into pop culture. Like, my wife isn't star wars fan at all, only saw original trilogy once and none of the other movies, but she knew all the characters even before we watched it.

Yeah baby yoda seems to be the thing thats stuck in the last twenty years. Nobody remembers the fur chickens from the ST.

yeap.

You know people keep saying this but.... I cant see it.. at all... SW or not. There are a few scenes I like quite a bit, but a few scenes doesnt make a good whole. Most folks who like TLJ seem to like the blow up of the skywalker saga more than anything else.

There's always those that want to burn things down.

Getting away from Skywalker Saga is fine. Maybe not in episodes VII-IX of the Skywalker Saga.

Was it even called that at the time?

Yup marketed as such as well. Not sure when.

Even without the label though it's VII-IX. Kind of implies it's continuing the story.

Disney's owned ot coming up 13 years. I'm thinking of 1991-2004. Plenty of non Skywalker stories.

Time and place ST wasn't the place.

To me Star Wars is the biggest example of "should have left it with the original offerings, and moved on." As a 70s child, I was very excited about the prequels, but everything since that point just felt like a diminishing. Sure, there were decent moments, but the sum total of Star Wars post-Return of the Jedi has taken away the original vitality of the story. IMO.
