It has been a while since I made a character that uses something with limited ammo. Mostly I have things like at will 5e cantrips or one off throwing weapons that I do track or go full melee. That is fairly by design because I like those types of characters and so I don’t have to track ammo.
As a DM I don’t sweat tracking normal arrows or bolts anymore and I like the 5e artificer power to generate normal ammo a lot. For the pulpy style action movie tone I generally go for “It’s not that kind of movie, kid.”
I used to be fairly big on specific material components and specifics on the equipment list being what you have in the AD&D era for my games but that has generally shifted over time to allow for less prepared camper style of D&D hero and more action movie types.
Magical ammunition, yes. Regular ammunition, absolutely not. Same with rations, rope, basically any non-magical adventuring equipment - if your character probably would've thought to bring it then just say you have it without tracking anything.
