I was gifted the Rien Poortvliet book Gnomes and noticed that Gnomes are described as being much smaller than in Dungeons and Dragons. This made me wonder about some of the online discourse I've seen about Gnomes and how there is a level of redundancy with Halflings. This makes me pose the question: Should Gnomes be Tiny? I think it would make for a very unique playable option.

I would give them the ability to move through small space like Plasmoids can but without squeezing.
That seems fine to me, especially if that's the only change you are making.

People will start making noise about it, though, if you start making adjustments to carrying capacity, lifting limits, and weapon categories. Like, could a Tiny character be able to wield a Heavy weapon? Would Light weapons be considered Heavy for a Tiny character? It's only a big deal (pun intended) if you want it to be, but some folks really want it to be.

Going with something optional/temporary it would provide a level of symmetry to the new PHB where the Goliath can become Large for a limited time if the Gnome can become Tiny. I’d enjoy this much more than the gadgets that mimic Prestidigitation.
