Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

Another controversial opinion...

Underrated: Johnny Mnemonic. With the exception of missing demi-humans, this is exactly what I want from a Shadowrun movie. This film, though not high class cinema, is incredibly fun and it stands up to repeated viewing for me. There were even some really good performances in it (Dolph as the borged out street preacher, Henry Rollins as the chop doc, etc).

Also Underrated: Warcraft (2016). Normally, video game movies are full stop awful. This was a pleasant surprise and, although it will probably never get a sequel, it really deserves one. I went into this as somebody who hadn't played a Warcraft video game since Warcraft III and thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you haven't read the original short story that it's (very) loosely based on, you should. Dina Meyer was absolutely robbed of what could have been the role of a lifetime, to make the story a vehicle for Keanu.

I know Arnie has that reputation. I don't think he's bad actor but he is limited in his range. Under rated comedy as he could do that as well.

Makes him better than a lot if actors tbf. He's more average than bad imho.

As you said he's self aware of his abilities.

It is a little tricky because on the one hand his range is very limited, on the other hand, he is one of the greats and I would watch a performance by him easily over many other more conventionally 'good' actors. I think his personality works well on screen. So it isn't really a criticism just so much acknowledgment that there are some movies you probably wouldn't want to put him in

Yup. I think he could cameo almost anything.

He's old now so can't really do his traditional stuff but I think you could use him in some roles still.

Some of his more recent performances have actually been kind of interesting (the movies have often not been great, but it has been fun watching him)

Better than say The Rock.

The only two things I've seen The Rock in that weren't entirely forgettable were The Scorpion King (which is not forgettable because it's one of the absolute worst pieces of trash I've ever had the displeasure of paying to see in a theater) and The Rundown (which was actually pretty fun, despite The Rock being cast as one of the leads).

Sure, I can drop some spicy hot takes
