D&D 5E I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

With regard to 5e 2024 anniversary edition, it seems the designers wanted a consolidation of 5e developments across the decade. But Hasbro wanted an entirely new edition. It seems the surveys ended up somewhere in between.

It led to sustainable improvements, which are the best kind. They took some swings in the playtest, and kept what worked.
the jury on that is very much still out, and I do not see the playtest as having made much of a difference with respect to improving the game either, the approach is too muddled to be much better than a coin toss. The one thing it does is identify hugely unpopular options, in case any were included (there weren't). Beyond that its parameters mostly result in stasis, not gradual improvements

I am relieved to see the word "race" gone.

I love the background feat standardizing. It continues 2014 rules via settings like Theros, Strixhaven, Van Richten, but the 2024 standard is a bit less powerful. Many were complaining about 2014 level 1 being too deadly. Now 2024 level 1 is more survivable. (If someone wants lowest level to be deadly, it is possible to play one or more sessions at the "level 0" background before gaining levels in a class.)

I love the Orc being in the Players Handbook, rather than the "Half Orc". Species works well in concept, even when magical species.

I like how Humanoid species avoid alignment assumptions. Re Orc, the adrenaline conveys a biological flavor, without implying "evil" or anger management issues.

I prefer each setting do the heavy lifting for setting flavor.

There are improvements I still want to see (such as abilities balancing with each other and being generally clear). I appreciate the updates that did make the cut.

Do they want that? Has adoption of 5.5 over its predecessor been so enthusiastic that we can count on that opinion?
Do fans of 5e want a non 5e ttrpg as a replacement for 5e... is that the ask? Remember they can just stick with '14 and use resources from '24 if they want... with a total break into a 6e D&D.... neither adopting revisions wholesale or using parts of '24 is on the table for 5e D&D fans. How is that a better proposition for those who are fans of 5e?
