I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

I am repeatedly surprised and giddy as I read through this book. It's amazing to me that both Matt Mercer and Matt Colville have recapitulated D&D 4E in wildly different ways as their flagship games. So many best of and greatest hits of D&D 4E were brought forward in Daggerheart. So many things refined and revised and simply improved upon. If the mechanics hold together in play like they read on paper, this just might be my go-to fantasy RPG going forward. I can't wait to see what the community and Darrington Press deliver in the months and years ahead.

Probably why I don't like it, myself 😁 Or...maybe not. Aside from the focus on dissociated mechanics, most of the things I don't like about Daggerheart weren't part of 4e. But best of wishes with your own gaming.

My favorite way to play Star Wars is with Savage Worlds. It just works, like right out of the book with almost no effort. The more Jedi or space are a focus the more likely you might need a little bit of extra support, but even then not much.

I also like WEG 1E for Star Wars because it is easy. 2E and 2E revised unfortunately bloated the system.
Funny - for Star Wars I prefer the 2E Revised and Expanded book.

I buy tons of RPG games, many that I do not end up playing. However, they pretty much have all had some sort of influence on how I run my own games and there's plenty of ideas I've pulled from one into another.

I'm hoping Daggerheart isn't another that just sits on my shelf. It's certainly different from D&D, but in a way that I find myself liking. More narrative and creative, less bound to narrow rules (Choice on "how do you want to do this", without having to have a half-dozen rules to confine doing it). The hope/fear mechanic really seems like it has the potential to keep things moving creatively, if you can mentally keep up.

About my gaming habits
Of the myriad systems I own, these have ended up being most dear to me (in descending order):

D&D (B/X, 2E & 5E, 3E for cannibalizing; I've played it for too long not to have as first)
Savage Worlds (if the game world doesn't have a bespoke system, I'm going to use this for it)
Vampire, and to a lesser degree Werewolf (Good memories from the 90's, and system that really favors interaction over combat)
Star Wars WEG (good, simple system that feels very Star Wars, and all the contributions WEG had to shaping Star Wars)
Star Trek Adventures (best Star Trek system I've found, especially solo)
Alien (It just does the universe right)
Blades in the Dark (took me aback with the system for "pre-planning that of course we already did" and event clocks)
Serenity (the CORTEX system is pretty easy and I like the universe)
Marvel FASERIP (best superhero system I've used IMHO)
Renegade's Transformers RPG (While character creation is hell, I wish D&D used its rule system)
Fading Suns (pre d20 era; love the Dune-like world, though the rules are bit flat)
Star Frontiers (my first introduction to a Sci-Fi RPG and simple at its core)
Gamma World (2nd Ed - will never forget my Rabbit PC with his landspeeder & mounted laser gun)
Twilight 2000 (the new Free League version; another good solo game and I just love poring over the military hardware of the original system)
Villains & Vigilantes (First superhero RPG I played in; while powers are quite random, it can cover any sort of hero and plays very D&D like. I was very fond of it until the Marvel game took its place)

I'm surprised to say that I ordered it yesterday and have been looking through the PDF. I can thank 12+ hours of content from Knights of Last Call on YouTube for making me interested.
I doubt I'll find a group to play it, but I want to show my support for an interesting system.

Derik loves the game which is not a very common occurrence for him.
