Don't feel compelled to start with a funnel. Some people love them, some people really hate them. (I'm not sure if Thracia includes one.)I just had the new Caverns of Thracia show up from Goodman over the weekend, and this time I went for DCC stats, so today I thought of this thread.
I've only played one convention game of DCC so far, and never run it. While I don't think I can dive into it just yet, does anyone feel like rhapsodizing about best practices, giving advice on introducing new players (who will likely be a mix of 5E and old school veterans, but not played DCC before) or favorite house rules?
Of course I can read back through the thread too.![]()
Thank you for the response.
I asked about Kingmaker because of that particular adventure path's theme of carving something out of a rugged patch of land.
The group for whom I DMed (Judged?) the DCC Rulebook Funnel approached things a lot differently than I expected. They wanted to save Old Man Roberts (and I went with that idea).
I think he's supposed to be in the process of dying as he tells the PCs about the portal, but one of players rolled a healer as one of their Level-0s. Coincidentally, they also rolled a holy symbol as their random starting item. The player asked if she could say a prayer and then try to find something in the portal that might save Old Man Roberts.
Anyway... the point is that the group has taken an interest in improving the town and the surround area. I was surprised by how much the group embraced telling the various stories of their peasants and pieced together information about their home village.
I think they would enjoy some amount of settlement building and eventually growing their small village into a stronghold.
Thank you. I picked up a few issues from the store.

What (if any) is your favorite non-DCC resource to use with DCC?
On my end, I have some combination d10/d5s that are nice to keep in my dice bag. I suppose dice can be used for any game though.
I also have a copy of Basic Fantasy Roleplay
that I picked up because the PDF was free. I've never played it, but I figured that I might be able to use some of the equipment and creatures from it without too much work.

Also, what is your favorite DCC-specific product?
I was considering picking up the Kingdoms of Africa book.
I ordered one of the first-time fan kits. It's such a good deal that it was hard to pass up, even though I already had a copy of the core book.
Yeah I'm kind of torn on GG nowMy Thracia books (5e and DCC) arrived. Somewhat bittersweet as I am planning on stepping away from Goodman Games because of City State.

Yeah. I'm completely done with Goodman Games. They joined the unfortunately long list of bad actors in the OSR space. I love me some OSR/NSR games but I'm so tired of it being a constant struggle against terrible people in this space. It reminds me of an old Chris Rock bit about defending rap music.Yeah I'm kind of torn on GG nowI resolved not to back the project because I couldn't justify it (and the price, hoo-ee the price!) but I would like more info before I decide on GG as a whole... I hope he decides to accept @Morrus invite to do an interview on the topic.

There are a lot of 3rd party DCC and others that do good work. And I have so much content already for DCC that I don’t need much more. Just very unfortunate that they made the choice.Yeah I'm kind of torn on GG nowI resolved not to back the project because I couldn't justify it (and the price, hoo-ee the price!) but I would like more info before I decide on GG as a whole...
