I don’t like the obnoxious ads either, but the real drum I’ve been beating lately is subscription. There are a buttload of prolific posters here who aren’t subscribers. They clearly enjoy ENWorld, but evidently haven’t bothered to consider a dollar value for they enjoyment they get.
I think a lot of us have taken quality media for granted for so long that we expect it to be “free”, but those days are long gone. If we want to enjoy something, I think we all need to step up and pay appropriately for it rather than griping that the service needs to include ads or raise prices to survive.
One might suggest that prolific posters should get free perks at a minimum, or at least prolific posters who drive clicks and subs should as they are probably a net positive on the bottom line.
Hear, hear. I've been getting free stuff for so long I'm sure I'm entitled to extra free stuff.
Wait... no.

Indeed, they are heavily subsidised by the book making side of things. In any event, the ads are intended to help defer costs, but as I understand it the message boards are not intended to be a moneymaker, and so don't need money-making policies.
Right on! I think you won’t regret it. And I’m flattered that you credit my mini-rant for motivating you, hahaWell, I guess THIS Post was the one that took me over the edge to finally subscribe. Sometimes your pants need kicking, and sometimes you need a kick in the pants

One might suggest that the day I have to resort to paying people to post is the day I close the forums. At that point, the very concept has catastrophically failed. One might suggest that prolific posters should get free perks at a minimum, or at least prolific posters who drive clicks and subs should as they are probably a net positive on the bottom line.
