(5.24 PBP) Vault Redux (OOC) Fitz's Refresher

I often read the OOC thread before I read the IC thread, and read stuff (like I did above) without context. Though I have fun guessing.

At any rate, I think that the DC of Intimidation, on an "already described as nervous" guy, by striding into his torchlight with a (well-known to these guys) symbol of the God of Murder stamped on your forehead, and immediately causing his body to seize...

Let's just say, the DC is very LOW, shall we?

I'll get back to you in the IC ASAP.

Hey team, a brief discussion about our escape plan:

Copper closing the grate behind us and jamming it shut kinda depends on everyone moving past the grate before he does.

I mean, if you want to be left behind as sacrifices cause that's a cool story bit and it's a one shot, that's fine. But I don't think such a drastic story beat is really necessary right now.

We're in turn-based combat rounds. Last round, it seems like you didn't take an action on your turn. Maybe you were readying to close the grate or something. Fitz rolled the round, and I moved towards the grate but didn't want the oxen to get an opportunity attacks on me and didn't have enough movement to actually move them myself, so I threw a javelin instead of going through the grate. Lorent (@Neurotic) took some kind of action to move the oxen that hopefully doesn't backfire, and I guess he's waiting to see how that goes before he jumps down through the grate. (It's understandable, being a nobleman, that he didn't want to try just leading the oxen out of the way, considering he might get his hands or clothes dirty! 😜) I think Fitz is waiting on you to take your turn before he rolls the round. There's not much I can do before he does that because I've already taken my turn. Maybe Copper could help Lorent move the oxen, so we all don't take opportunity attacks while we go through?

I appreciate what you're saying here, but @Hriston has a point. Your last action declaration was that you would "close the grate", but at the time it hadn't been opened yet. I chose, like I generally try to, to go with your intent as best I can, so I had Stryke open it. From my perspective Lorent and Terrin have simply spent one more round getting ready to jump in.

It can be a common problem, both in games and IRL (my wife and I do this all the time): You're waiting on people who are waiting on you.

I was caught a bit off-guard by the Hold Person. Is that what started the fight? If so, I posted an attack. If not, then I just move forward and use my bonus action to rage.

As a reaction, Merrick gets a free attack on anyone that enters his threat range. Edit: which I posted ahead of time and it'll miss but does 3 damage because of Graze.

@Kobold Stew I think we're in a good place but we're going to get picked off by ranged attacks. I'm especially concerned by the wizards who can bypass Merrick's resistance. Does Urgan have some kind of illusion to block line of sight???

I'm sorry -- I think I posted while you were typing, sticking with what I said before we knew more.
Yes, I could set up an Silent Image, which could provide some cover. With Urgan moving ahead, he gets to test the (presumed) spellcaster. She will either flee (which we can't do anything about) or be engaged, in which case Urgan will try to do something next turn. (I could have just hit her with the bigger spell first, but (a) she's likely to have higher saves, and (b) her fleeing isn't bad for us.

If you think my analysis is wrong, he can put up an illusion next round.

No, it's fine. I realized you posted just as I was posting. I edited my post so that Merrick is standing next to Urgan but still in 10 foot range of the Held Mercenary. I don't want Urgan to be out there all alone. What I SHOULD have done is used Thaumaturgy to douse that Mercenary's torch. That would have helped Torhak.

But I can't do that anymore since I'm raging.

Shamal's Hold Person is the first action of the fight, yes, but it was pretty close to inevitable. Your ruse wouldn't hold up to much scrutiny, in particular because I doubt that you would be able to answer too many questions. Besides, Shamal has a symbol of Bhaal right there on his forehead. You'd have an easier time claiming to be returned Bhaalite cultists than Beast Boys. The sashes will work in passing, though, and might make Mercs ask questions before opening fire.
