Why would they? If the point of having a unique timer for each torch is because it's more "realistic" it then breaks that sense of "realism" if you have a monster attack one torch and somehow they all go out together.
Some effects would hit them all. Multiple monsters could also attack multiple torches. I did not mean that the torches were like Christmas bulbs. 😁

It isn't intended to be literal, IMO. Very little about the mechanics of most games is truly realistic. The purpose of torch time is primarily to enhance the drama, not to imitate real life.

A cool trap would be the usual flooding room scenario, except with the torch situation the person with the highest reach will be the last to go out. I can imagine the PCs building a pyramid to keep one lit, drowning one PC while another can try and disable the trap.

This summer I am developing a SD-compatible highly focused game. I am going to make a couple fundamental core changes (it will be classless, for one) but it is important that one can use SD monsters, spells and items with it.
Would be interested in hearing more about this as it progresses.

As an aside, I just stopped by a local games shop and contemplated getting the SD DM screen (didn't pull the trigger but still might).

I've created many homebrew game systems in my life (for personal use with friends, never published), but if I were to envision the perfect game, SD is close.

I think it's close to the perfect hybrid of OSR and modern mechanics. I would change very few things about it if I were creating something new, and then I may still change them back after playtesting!

It's just a truly brilliant game. Plays fast, high stakes/drama, no sprawling skills list, doesn't use THAC0, easy to prep games for -- just a great game!

The SD screen is very good. It's got a bunch of tables, with an NPC generator on the left two panels, random encounter info and a treasure generator on the third panel, and more treasure generation stuff on the fourth panel.

I'm honestly not sure why the latest Kickstarter is creating a new screen, or what's going to be on it.

The screen is also thick enough to stop a bullet and folds up really well. They did a lot of great physical design work on this.
