Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

If anyone's interested, I attempted to homebrew a Shadowdark Ranger. This is still a draft, and I'm open to feedback. I have not run it in a game yet. I tried to make it balanced based on the standard classes in the core rulebook and went with my personal take on fantasy Rangers (no/low magic; primarily a stealthy hunter-tracker). Thank you.
That looks pretty good at a glance. Simpler and more focused than the Western Reaches one.

To go along with my Shadowdark Ranger, here's an attempt at a Druid. Welcome any feedback. I'm not as satisfied with this one as I am with the Ranger, but I'm trying to avoid making it wholly different or unbalanced with the existing core classes in SD.

I want it to feel like a D&D-ish druid and stand apart from the other classes, but still keep it approachable and simple so it fits Shadowdark. Thanks if you take a look.

Was this overpowered?

Chimera. Level 10 monster. VS 7 PC's with a total of 12 levels.

The Chimera tore them apart. 4 attacks at +7 for 2D8 PLUS a breath weapon DC15 for 4D6? 4 died and the other 3 barely lived and probably would have died had initiative been in my favor.

By compassion they fought a Remorhaz (level 10), they kicked it's butt, more or less. One PC almost died.

The math looks OK, but that doesn't tell the whole story.

Were they aware of either monster before combat began? A chimera getting the drop on a group, especially if it can hit multiple PCs with its breath weapon, would be deadly.

On the other hand, if the group was aware of it, they could have either avoided it or found a way to engage it when they had tactical advantage.

2 attempts on the Chimera. 2nd attempt they knew what they were in for and planned accordingly. 4 attacks plus the breath weapon just shreds one or more PC per turn.

I suppose party make up may have to do with it. No Wiz. 1 Fighter. 2 Clerics though 1 couldn't cast Cure Wounds. It was brutal.

cleric is the only official healing class in the game? No Druid yet seems a huge oversite.
Adjustments are easy to make. I really love the overall package of Shadowdark, but I kinda wanted to see a few more ancestries and classes as well. In fact, funny you mention it because I homebrewed a Shadowdark Druid just today! Posted it upstream on this very thread.

I didn't really emphasize healing in it. More attunement with the natural world, and I still have to create the spell list, which I plan to borrow and tweak from D&D 5e.
