Yeah the focus shifted quickly away from the Maquis didnt it?
Yeah, it felt like they were going to be a big deal, but then they quickly faded into the background. I think the previous episode involving them was the one where Riker’s transporter twin tried to steal the Defiant.

Sisko's former buddy captain going rogue seemed like a long time set up. Then, vanished as they moved on. Thats even before the Dominion war.

Yeah, the Maquis were ultimately just one plot thread too many for the writers, which is a shame, because a lot of the themes involved with them were ones that the show liked to explore. But with the tides of multiple conflicts sweeping across the region, it was tough to keep them relevant without compromising other storylines.

Yes, it seems like Maquis were gonna be an inflame point between Cardassia and Bajor putting Federation in the middle, but Dominion came along and ate that lunch.

The Maquis, along with the Klingons, served to put enough pressure on the Cardassians to make them make some choices in later seasons. But it would have been interesting to see them explore this some more.

Hmm... goes to look things up on Memory Alpha

Oh, that's interesting. Apparently the Maquis were primarily intended as a Voyager thing from the start, with them being planted in TNG and DS9 as a convenient way to not have to include a whole lot of exposition on them in Voyager. Too bad the Voyager people then decided to have them almost immediately assimilate into the Voyager crew, with the only real remnant of their origins being some unorthodox tactics now and then.
