New Star Trek Movie Coming From D&D Movie Creators

This confuses me. Star Trek has been bombarded with new characters since it started. I couldn’t begin to name them all. Multiple entire crews. I don’t have a list of Star Trek main characters handy, but I bet it it’s in the multiple dozens.
Which movies weren't from the two TV shows? Because I thought we were talking movies?

Really hope we don't get another batch of Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Lots of other people and ships in Star Fleet. Next Gen and DS9 showed you can do Star Trek mostly without Kirk. Same for Voyager and Enterprise. Although Next Gen did find a way for Scotty to show up for one episode.

Could make a movie about the ship and crew that has to collect the Federation's first 'cut' from Sigma Iotia II, the 'gangster planet' in A Piece of the Action. One of those episodes that managed to infuse a fair amount of comedy into the show.

McCoy was in the first episode. Spock had more than one episode appearance.

There was some discussion of the "frontier" concept that was famously Roddenberry's initial pitch for the series, "wagon train to the stars." I'd like to see the new film, if it happens, go back to that concept and focus on an adventure of discovery rather than conflict between the established factions. Add to the canon, and once more make space seem like it is full of unexpected possibilities. Undiscovered country, literally.

But the main characters featured in movies are far fewer. Around a dozen. After all this time it wouldn't make sense to make a movie featuring main characters from DS9, Voyager, TNG, or Enterprise. New adventures with new characters on a new ship would make some sense if you're not planning to use the original characters.

Give Alan Ruck and his Captain Hariman his moment in the spotlight.
There were four movies featuring the main cast of TNG.

I hope that it's obviously a bad choice to yet-again recast Kirk, Spock, et al, what with Strange New Worlds, Kelvin, and the OS. I'd further say that I'd really rather not see recast "younger" Picard, Riker, Data, etc.

I think this is what is meant above by "New Characters". Heck, I'd personally rather also see a new Ship, rather than it "always" (minus Discovery, I guess) being the Enterprise, but I guess that I'd be happy with another Enterprise, if we got a new crew - or heck, if you're going to recast anyone, do Rachel Garrett and the doomed crew of the Enterprise C.

Or surprise us all and make Star Trek Legacy into a Movie and have Seven of Nine commanding the Enterprise F.
