The D&D/Magic The Gathering crossover book Lorywn: First Light has been released over on D&D Beyond.

Lorwyn-Shadowmoor is a MtG plane which switches between its night and day aspects ever 300 years. Lorwyn is the 'day' aspect and has strong fey influences and does not feature humans.

The digital-only release includes the Lorwyn Changeling (which differs from Eberron Changeling in interesting ways) and Rimekin (an ice-person) species, and two new elven lineages: Lorwyn elf and Shadowmoor elf. Feats are Shadowmoor Hexer and Child of the Sun (tied to Lorwyn Expert and Shadowmoor Expert backgrounds).

You can grab Lorwyn: First Light on D&D Beyond for $14.99.

They say this.. But it's something I've always been skeptical of. Rosewater has mentioned this, as well as "These players don't even know what a Format is!" and it has always made me wonder..

Like, I don't doubt that these hyper casual players exist. I started as one myself. But.. How are they getting data from these players? I get surveys because I check into LGS events through the Companion app.. I get surveys because I follow MTG and WOTC on social media.

Are they sending out snail mail surveys to random Americans just asking "Do you play Magic the Gathering? Do you know what Standard is?"

Seems like some statistical hocus pocus to me.
It has always seemed sensible and probable to me. Over the years, I have spent a few hundred dollars on Magic (bits and bobs here and there, nothing huge), but I have never drafter or done FNM or any sort of formal play.

And how they know is obvious enough: serious market research.

You would be astounded what companies can find out about their customer without needing to interrogate every person who bought soap from a particular brand. Same statistical research can be done gor Magic.

I think enfranchised fans of amy hobby tend to overinflate the importance of high-ontensity spaces, when casual hobbyists are far more common.

So, what you are saying about the market research, is a wizard did it.

I think one of the challenges WotC face with MtG isn’t it isn’t very casual friendly. It’s not like Cluedo or Monopoly, something you can pull out and play with the family at Christmas. When players stop keeping up they tend to drop out of playing all together.

I played during lorwyn dont recall it bring hated.
It was one of those “critically successful, commercially failed” situations. People who were buying the set generally liked it. But not enough people were buying it. Probably didn’t help that UB faeries dominated standard and extended and even had a meaningful presence in Legacy for a few years.
Im guessing Ravnica is popular. Even back then it was a special set due to standard, block and draft.
Ravnica was extremely popular, yes.

Commander is very popular, but "kitchen table" Magic is still going yo be the dominant format. Most Msgic players have never drafted, played Conmander, or done anything else in a formal setting line FNM.
Commander has pretty much completely taken over kitchen table magic.

I remember bitterblossom.
Dropped out when Jace the Mindsculptor and Tarmogoyf blew up.

We knew when they added legendaries what would happen.
