Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

As for people of color showing up in European time periods folks tend to think of as all-white, I think most folks don't realize how diverse older times and places could be - and there are scholars and efforts to convey a better picture of the kinds of people that were around in a time or place.
Whenever anyone complains about people of color being in historical European projects, I immediately know that this is not a person who actually cares about historical accuracy at all.

Where are people paying this much for streaming? Our streaming services are:
  • MAX + Disney+ + Hulu: $21.31/month
  • Paramount+: $5.99/month
  • Netflix: $8.52/month
  • Amazon Prime: $12.35/month
  • TOTAL: $48.17/month
Meanwhile, getting JUST INTERNET from my cable company costs $180/month. When I had the bundle that included just the basic cable package and phone service, it was up to $240/month 7 or 8 years ago when I cut the cord.

I have more options under our streaming plans (remember, I was getting just the basic cable package) and pay $12 less a month.

I have tried explaining cable to my child multiple times and the idea that a show would only be on at a certain time is so utterly alien to them.

Meanwhile, my wife's students refer to shows releasing one episode a week as the "Disney Plus model"

I complain about this all the time. There were non-white people in Europe for a long time; Moorish traders, travellers from the Levant, Africans, Indians, etc. There should totally be more people of color in historical dramas. Why is everybody white?

It's especially galling when it's something set in like... ancient Greece or Rome. Like... what do you think is on the other side of the Mediterranean? Norway?

That is a hefty internet bill!

For a long time I had internet and basic cable TV for 120 U.S. a month. Then, they started jacking the price; 140, 160, 180, 200... So, they forced me to cut the cable and go just internet. 80 bucks a month. I started some streaming services and combined im probably up to 140 ish so close to or more than cable package was.

$80 a month! I live in Canada, once of the most expensive countries in the world when it comes to internet costs. I pay just over $40 a month, net.

As one who was that first line support.. you would be surprised.

Given the number of Tier One technical support types who insist on reading off the script to tell me to do things I've just told them I already did, apparently companies think so.

I'm tier 2 (at least) and you might be surprised how often tier 1 fails to ask it.

Or how often the customer says they've done something and they haven't. Back when I was doing 1st line broadband/tv support, one of our requirements before escalating something to 2nd line was to tell the customer that if this ends up with us sending a technician to their home and it turns out they haven't done the things we ask them to (turn it on and off, try a different cable, etc.), we'd charge them a fee for the tech visit.
I have a friend who used to work IT Tech Support calls.

One day, he got one that took him hours. He had asked about whether the device was properly plugged in, and it was. He tried everything he knew, and he asked for help from his coworkers and supervisor. Nothing worked.

Eventually, he told the customer to try calling the manufacturer. The guy said he’d try in the morning.

“Why?” asked my friend. “Their help desk is open 24-7.”

“Because the power has been out for hours, and my phone is running out of charge.

I was thinking this as I was watching Stranger Things and as someone who was exactly the same age as those kids in those years, there is A LOT less smoking than I remember both by adults and teens. I understand not wanting to "promote" smoking - but I also think it is possible to show some accuracy while making sure to frame it with a current sensibility.

My Brothers in Dice, do you remember the art for D&D 2Ed Legends & Lore’s Egyptian Pantheon?
