Answering questions no one has asked me:

Do I paint beards onto my female dwarven minis? Yes.

Do I wish that more female dwarven minis were sculpted with beards? Yes.

Have I ever found any (that were not custom)? Yes, on Etsy.

Have I ordered them? Not yet, I am on a self-imposed mini-ordering moratorium, but the temptation is strong.

My wife is a big female-dwarves-with-beards stan. I don't particularly like the visual, but then again, I'm also more into non-Tolkienesque fantasy races. Like, say, Talislanta.

EDIT: And now I regret searching etsy for "female dwarf with beard miniature." Some of those female dwarf miniatures had no beards, or much in the way of clothing...

Whenever this topic comes up there is always at least one poster that says something like “women don’t want to play characters with beards.”

But literally every woman who has played a dwarf in a game I was involved with was really into their beard. Which is not to say those posters’ experiences are wrong, the are just not complete.

Maybe it is just that I like to mess with ideas of gender expression in my fantasy (and in life) as do most of the people I spend time with and have plenty of cross-gender play. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I figure if someone wants to play a dwarven woman, it's their choice whether she has a beard or not. Mostly I don't think of them that way, but I don't impose that on anyone else.
Which is as it should be - just like when you play a male character - and if someone wanted to play a different hair-having species that is female and have a beard, they can too!

I've always been a big dwarven-women-have-beards truther, but then I don't think literally anybody would find it particularly surprising that I've enjoyed messing with gender expression in either the past or present.

Besides, it's not like actual human women in the real world don't have facial hair
