[Humor] Friday Nonsense: Stupid Player Tricks

Some of you folks toss out "stop playing with them" at the drop of a hat.
Some do, I don’t. But I do believe that if someone is showing absolutely no restraint on the player side in the actual game that it’s a valid question.

This player is testing boundaries with his newly minted 17th level wizard. It's funny.
in which case my previous observation that some players like to consider cool combos but don’t actually play with them seems applicable, which is completely fine.

On second read through of the thread it seems the intent was for this to be more humorous than real complaining, so carry on.

I edited the title to clarify.

My stupid player tricks are much less about absurd power and more, well mayonnaise.

One keeps bringing up the bag of holding and alchemy jug trick to make the biggest mayonnaise jar ever. He’s trying to talk the artificer into doing it.

Mention to them that ancient gold dragons aren't spellcasters, so the wiz cant cast simulacrum in that form.

Also True Poly doesnt work on shapechangers (which the dragon is according to stat block)

All in fun great try though...kudos for effort and ingenuity.

What nonsense have you had to deal with as GM recently?
On board a target ship, trying to recover the logs.
"I blow the airlock to suck the Xenomorph out"
Xenomorph easily passes the roll to not be blown out.
tries again a few minutes later... after a chestburster joins the scene...
"I blow the airlock and let go" - the Xenomoph Drone stays pat, the chestburster is sucked right out after the PC...
(Just for completeness, the PC then gets 4 successes to convince his own ship's MU/TH/UR to pick her up. And shoots the chest burster to oblivion...)

This is what I am dealing with:

What nonsense have you had to deal with as GM recently?

A player tried to do some shenanigans with Mage Hand by holding a cloth in front of an enemy in order to blind them.

I said, "I don't know if that would work."

They said, "Oh, it seemed like something clever you would come up with."

How can I say no???

I wonder why people play games that don't have rules to support the fun things they want to do?

Well achually :geek:; The spell reads, "...you choose whether the finished clone is the same age as the creature or younger." So, no ancient dragon here

Bam, lawyered!
And don't forget there is an entire plane of Modruns who guard the integrity of the universe. Such Hijynxes would probably attract the Prime Modruns wrath. There are lawful and orderly ways to gather power, such shortcuts involving creation of demo planes, misuses of wish and simalcrum could bring all kinds of outer planar notice from him or others None of it friendly.

Weird part of 2024 True Polymorph is you can't speak.
...The target is limited in the actions it can perform by the anatomy of its new form, and it can’t speak or cast spells.

While you could speak in 2014 if the new form is verbal.
...The creature is limited in the actions it can perform by the nature of its new form, and it can’t speak, cast spells, or take any other action that requires hands or speech, unless its new form is capable of such actions.

Depending on Oxford comma usage, this might even say you can cast spells if the creature can, and Gold Dragons are spellcasters, at least in 2024 and maybe Fizban. Of course, the caster has lost access to their spells from the part about ...The target’s game statistics are replaced by the stat block of the new form...

Also True Poly doesnt work on shapechangers (which the dragon is according to stat block)

That doesn't mean what you think it means in this case. You can't cast True Polymorph on a Gold Dragon as it will reflexively shapeshift out of it. Nothing says you can't cast True Polymorph on a non-shapeshifter and turn them into a shapeshifter, such as a Gold Dragon
