Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Well, I asked the AI, and Claude said it was on top of things, Gemini commiserated with me, and Mythos said... uh... I'm not sure those are meant to be sounds humans can make... I can hear colors now... The chats! The chats in the walls!!!...

Did a bunch of reading on race-as-class last night, and now I'm convinced it solves some problems I have with Ancestry options.

Hmm.
I can see it maybe solving some problems, but it seems to me as though it will almost certainly create others. OTOH, you might be bothered by the problems it solves, and not by the problems it creates--preferences and tastes can and do differ.

Yeah, the arguments against it, I get. I dont know that the variability matters a whole bunch, but thats again assuming a more Human-centric approach to the setting anyway.

On the other hand 'wait I cannot be a Dwarf Cleric? Why?' so I get that.

Mechanically though, there is some temptation there.

I think the answer is probably to offer both, to cover all bases. If you want to be a quintessential halfling, here's a class for that. If you want to make a halfling assassin instead, go nuts.

Hmm.
Why not both? If a player wants to play an Elf class, sure; if another player wants to make an Elf Thief, go ahead. They will play differently at the table; in any case, a better concern is, what is your Elf's personality beyond "I'm a thief." Because, that's pretty basic. I think the player can do better!
