VE's Shackled City Team GRIT

(I'll edit in links to character information, etc, at some point)

Your newly formed party decides to take the conversation outside on this late autumn evening. With no destination in mind, your travels lead you towards the Lantern Street Orphanage.

The once pleasant weather has changed and a wretched drizzle falls from the ash-gray sky. The crowded, rain-slicked buildings seem especially bleak and frightful this evening, hunched together beneath the gloomy skies. A few lights burn in their windows, but mostly their shutters have been closed for the night. The scent of chimney smoke fills the air, and the din of water trundles from the rooftops, splashing into dark alleys and turning street gutters into rivulets. A sudden, plaintive cry for help from a nearby alley splits the evening air.

[sblock=All except Eladra and Zurg]You hear the sounds of a scuffle and cursing from the same nearby alleyway.[/sblock] [sblock=All]Assuming you’re the heroic type , a move action will be enough to reach the alley’s entrance. It is 10 feet wide and 60 feet long, opening into the street at either end. Like many alleys in Cauldron, it slopes toward the center of town at a fairly steep 15 degree angle; steps have been carved into the alleyway in many places to ease progress along its length. Two-story buildings loom on both sides.[/sblock]

Voadam

Legend
"So this Demonskar, I would hear more about ..." Voadam's head snaps up as he hears the screams. "This way. Quickly!" The black robed wizard dashes towards the sounds of conflict.

Caliber

Explorer
Running forward with his black robed companion, Koen rounds the corner and stops at the sight of the face painted hooligans assaulting the innocent man.

Resting his hands on his swords, he calls out, "If you're smart you'll stop what you're doing and step away at once!"

OOC: How far away are the thugs from Koen and Voadam at the moment?

The hooded man moans in agony as his assailants glare up at Koen. One draws his dagger. The other seems only mildly annoyed by the interruption, “Bugger off or it’ll be the same for you!

The lookout glances over his shoulder before quickly drawing his own dagger.

The two attackers stand over the fallen man in the middle of the alleyway. Thirty feet between Voadam / Koen and the attackers, the lookout is an additional 30 feet away.[/sblock]

Zurg Bravehelm

Hearing the scream and then seeing his companions head toward the alley, Zurg heads toward the alley's entrance. As always his greataxe is held at the ready.

Kaelestis, hearing the scuffle, dashes right behind Voadam. As he runs, he deftly pulls out his bow and readies an arrow. When he skids to a stop in front of the alley, he lifts his bow and alternatively points it at both of the brigand's heads. Straining the arrow as far back as it can go, he is clearly ready to take a shot. Kael speaks loudly and quickly. "Up, bup bup! Not today, fellas! Both of you, against the wall, and put your hands where I can see them! If you enjoy thinking with those lovely painted heads of yours, I'd suggest that you do it." Gritting his teeth, he hopes that they comply.

[sblock=OOC]Naturally, I'm dashing to the alley. Paladin can't pass up an opportunity like this! I'd like to avoid shooting them, if possible, so here's my actions, followed by my plan.

MOVE ACTION - Move to mouth of alley, but just so I have line of sight. I'm on higher ground, giving that lovely +1 to attack rolls. Draw weapon as I do so.

STANDARD ACTION - Ready action to fire bow if one of the thugs dashes towards me or any of my friends. If they try to run, then I won't take my readied action (unless you say that it's OK for me to specify that if they run, I take a NONLETHAL shot at whichever one is closest), and I'll prepare to give chase next round.

NEXT ROUND - Like I said, if they run, then I pursue them, with whatever measure is necessary to catch up to them. I assume that they might just all-out run, in which case I'll do the same. I'll cover actions taken after that when the time comes.

If they comply, however, then I keep them at bowpoint and cast detect evil and hold my readied action (shoot if they run towards me or my teammates). Something tells me that they're gonna run, though.[/sblock]

Voadam

Legend
Voadam's eyes narrow at the sight of the men "Thugs." he says with anger.

"No." Voadam stretches out his arms and his eyes flash silver. The man's body beneath the black robes bursts into a glowing aura from within that cuts through the smoke and fog of the drizzly night, flooding the alleyway with light as bright as the noonday sun.

ooc daylight. 60' full daylight, dim light 60' more

Spawn of Khyber/LEB Judge
Eladra, her gaze dreamy, floats amongst the others when the first sound is heard. As the others rush off, she jumps up and claps with a childish glee. "Its time!" Skipping a bit behind the others, she pokes her head from behind the gathered throng and sticks at her tongue at the thugs.

OOC: Eladra does nothing this round, waiting for fight or flight (Delay until next).

Oh gods, what now? Kali thinks as she unsheaths her short swords and follows the rest into the alley. She squints as her eyes adjust to the now light filled alley and takes note of the two oddly painted characters and their apparent target against the wall. Swords at the ready she waits for one of her companions to make the first move, fight or flee she's ready for either.
