Just too cool
The 4.0 info that we've seen so far is certainly a lens - they put parts of 3.x into perspective. I've also kind of perked up about 3.x since then; I was feeling kind of tired (partly because I DM, which is inherently exhausting regardless of the system) but being told that I...
Are we there yet, Papa Mark?
Status effects in 3.X generally weren't tied to the monster that created them though. With marks it's not just the effect that matters, but who applied it.
I can has lewt plz?
More to the point, the guy who killed him can pick it up and hit you with it at full potency, but for you it's little better than an iron pipe.
Loot, loot, loot the party
Or there's really no way for anyone to tell any given +x primary slot item from any other +x primary slot item, and it's not like anyone can appraise them easily what with there being no magic shops and all, so if nobody saw you do it... :uhoh:
zomg teh numbarz
No stat block format is going to save bad writing and ideas, and having to spend time writing stat blocks at the end of the mod process is not going to magically change good writing and ideas to poo.
Evolution Not Revolution
They're doing what I suspect a lot of people will be doing and happily taking some of the things they liked and houseruling them into 3.5. They are also giving people a very early alpha look at the rules as well, so if it's too far out of line then there's the chance...
Greyhawk the gift pack!
In 3e, it would be a method to let people who've invested a lot of points in a skill really show off, even if that skill doesn't seem to be immediately applicable - letting a feature of someone's character drive the action can never be all that bad. Depending on how...
Deck of many minute bonuses
We've taken to using "cards" to list out ongoing effects in 3.5 - most likely 4.0 will require the same kind of tracking, but you have to remember to keep clearing the one-round effect cards off the table all the time, and everyone will have to make cards, not just...
4breakfast?
Unfortunately it looks like you'll only be able to choose sausage to go with your eggs - it took too long for people to choose between sausage and bacon in breakfast testing. However, you'll have a huge variety of sausage to choose from to make sure your breakfast is unique and fun...

It may be that they're "smoothing out" the time. Fewer options for spellcasters. More options for fighters. So spellcasters and that sort of character might take less, but things which were simple in 3.5 take more. It could be that there's a lot more stuff about creating non-optimized NPCs...
