    D&D 3E/3.5 4E Ruined My Love For 3.5

Just too cool The 4.0 info that we've seen so far is certainly a lens - they put parts of 3.x into perspective. I've also kind of perked up about 3.x since then; I was feeling kind of tired (partly because I DM, which is inherently exhausting regardless of the system) but being told that I...

Monsters that mark: A pain for DMs

Are we there yet, Papa Mark? Status effects in 3.X generally weren't tied to the monster that created them though. With marks it's not just the effect that matters, but who applied it.

How will the designers (or the players) deal with magic item influx due to PC death?

I can has lewt plz? More to the point, the guy who killed him can pick it up and hit you with it at full potency, but for you it's little better than an iron pipe.

How will the designers (or the players) deal with magic item influx due to PC death?

Wait, what? Items can't be used by your allies but they can be used by the guy who just finished killing you? Mind-blowing.

How will the designers (or the players) deal with magic item influx due to PC death?

Loot, loot, loot the party Or there's really no way for anyone to tell any given +x primary slot item from any other +x primary slot item, and it's not like anyone can appraise them easily what with there being no magic shops and all, so if nobody saw you do it... :uhoh:

D&D 4E Keith Baker on 4E! (The Hellcow responds!)

zomg teh numbarz No stat block format is going to save bad writing and ideas, and having to spend time writing stat blocks at the end of the mod process is not going to magically change good writing and ideas to poo.

D&D 4E What was Paizo thinking? 3.75 the 4E clone?

Evolution Not Revolution They're doing what I suspect a lot of people will be doing and happily taking some of the things they liked and houseruling them into 3.5. They are also giving people a very early alpha look at the rules as well, so if it's too far out of line then there's the chance...

    Rodney Thompson: Non-Combat Encounters

Greyhawk the gift pack! In 3e, it would be a method to let people who've invested a lot of points in a skill really show off, even if that skill doesn't seem to be immediately applicable - letting a feature of someone's character drive the action can never be all that bad. Depending on how...

Why remove the Dodge feat, but add "marks"?

Deck of many minute bonuses We've taken to using "cards" to list out ongoing effects in 3.5 - most likely 4.0 will require the same kind of tracking, but you have to remember to keep clearing the one-round effect cards off the table all the time, and everyone will have to make cards, not just...

D&D 3E/3.5 4E Simulationism: Did 3.5E Really Do That Good of a Job?

What is real and what is fantasy? Maybe not so much "real" as "internally consistent".

    15 Minute NPCs

4breakfast? Unfortunately it looks like you'll only be able to choose sausage to go with your eggs - it took too long for people to choose between sausage and bacon in breakfast testing. However, you'll have a huge variety of sausage to choose from to make sure your breakfast is unique and fun...

The Possibility of "Too Fantastic" Fantasy

Anorexic catgirls with tentacles might be taking things a bit too far. There are certain things that are just indecent.

    15 Minute NPCs

It may be that they're "smoothing out" the time. Fewer options for spellcasters. More options for fighters. So spellcasters and that sort of character might take less, but things which were simple in 3.5 take more. It could be that there's a lot more stuff about creating non-optimized NPCs...

    D&D 4E Why I'm "Meh" About 4E

Generally speaking... getting a game together doesn't necessarily involve telling 4-6 other people that they're going to play in your vision and like it. Knowing what your players like and what kind of consensus you can all find is part of DMing. For example, if you know that the majority of...

More from Mearls' blog re: NPC Creation

At that level he ought to have the Sudden Silent feat, or Silent Spell and a Silent Dimension Door memorized. Or he can cast Spell Immunity: Silence. If he's really prepared, he could Commune before facing the party and tune his buffs properly.

The Possibility of "Too Fantastic" Fantasy

Unfortunately one of the iron laws of role-playing games is that the likelihood of cat-people appearing in a setting or game is directly proportional to the number of expansions that setting has had. Give the cat-girls time. They'll be along eventually. Though, really, is a cat-person any more...

Love the Game, Hate the Marketing

Or maybe adventuredelic I look forward to more varied adjectivization in WotC's marketing materials. I will definitely buy 4E if you can work "awesometastic" in somewhere.

WotC_PeterS: Power Names (UPDATE: They just keep coming)

I'm totally going to use this the next time I have to roll up a low-level fighter or something. "Dragonberry Village Secret Technique...! COW-TIPPING STRIKE!"
