Best Current RPG Artist?

From another painter's perspective, I have to go with Brom & Matt Wilson. Their work is just very impressive. For his interior work w/ Privateer Press (and his MtG work as well), I'd have to include Brian Snoddy in that group as a personal fave.

These are artists who's talents impress both my wife and myself (we both hold MFAs in Painting and have taught on the University level for many years).

Anyone know whatever happened to Rob Ruppel? Man that guy could paint. Mad skillz.

Ooh, Andy Braz! He's had a bunch of stuff in FFG's books -- that one of the swordswoman next to the "Emperor's Blade" prestige class in Path of the Sword is AWESOME!

Big Braz fan right here.

My favorites:
Todd Lockwood (Best by far)
Sam Wood (Always good)
WAR (Ditto)
Tony D (lots of good 2ed stuff from him)
Marc Sasso (the absolutely stunning epic Blackguard and the Death Knight Illustrations)
Richard Thomas (His Orcus pic in the ToH was awesome)

I fell in love with the artwork of Jennifer Meyer in the Green Ronin Avatar's Handbook. She does great work on "celestial-type" beings, IMO - and her pencilwork is incredible.

All-around, all-time, all-things, though, I'm an Elmore guy.

I can't remember his(her?) name. But he did a bunch of work for Rifts. His initials were WVM or VWM. I can't remeber which. I loved his illistrations and the use of shading.

There is alot of stuff that I like a whole lot better, but he's the only person that I even come close to knowing the name of.

I believe you are referring to Vince Martin. He was an incredible artist. Although he seems to have dropped off the Earth.

Kevin Long was another great Palladium artist who seems to have dropped off the earth too.

As far as artists working today:

Todd Lockwood
Sam Wood
Brom
Larry Elmore
Wayne Reynolds

Justin Sweet

hes the best

Well, since he did some original art specifically for the Warcraft RPG, I can technically say Samwise Didier. I love his larger-than-life style - observe how he brings a witch doctor, a mountain giant, and a dwarf to life. ;)

Other than that... whoever did the racial lineup in the 1E PHB. The half-orc's soul-searching eyes display a depth of emotion that isn't present in modern RPG artwork, and the bold, minimalist style says "elegance" all over.

;)
