I've heard that a lot of people use regular old Latex house paint for their scenery. Mostly because it is really much cheaper for the coverage, but also because a lot of them also work with foam for much of their scenery and some paints can "shrivel" styrofoam...or so I've heard. Just my two cents on that, anyway.

Keep those photos coming, btw. I'm enjoying them immensely and thank you. :)

Latex paint is great for styrofoam. Acrylics work well too. Some oil based paints 'eats' styrofoam, as most glues do.

IMHO, latex paints aren't good for small details, so they are great for painting the base coat of a big castle but null for the small details.

I use spray car paint for the first layer (imprimation), and then acrylics for the next one (color, wash, drybrushing...).

And yes, it's a very addictive hobby :) :)

So you basecoat the model white or something first before doing the acrylics? Hmmm... Actually glad I asked because it reminded me I need to get more modelling plaster before the long weekend because tomorrow everything will be closed.

Yes, I give it a basecoat of car paint... It's cheap, and very very fast!!!

So now your an addict of the hobby, as me :D :D

Dang, that means this is back up top... well I _AM_ going to put some paint on these babies this weekend so I'll post up the results :)

Thanks, Hong, for the bump, and the heads-up in the other thread! I'll let that one die a quiet death.

Great work, LcKedovan -- very cool stuff. I'd love to see more pictures!

OK!!! It has been a long time coming but this weekend I painted up what I have made so far. It was nice to have a weekend where I wasn't sick again so I took full advantage of the day and cracked out the huge tubes of acrylic paint that I bought to do the dungeon.

The colours I used for these were:

basecoat, quite watered down to insure that it seeped into the cracks, was Burnt Umber Hulk (errr... well maybe it was just Burnt Umber. or Sombra tostada in spanish?)

The next coat was watered down only slightly and the brush was dried a little bit so that it wouldn't cover in the cracks. It was Raw Umber (Sombra natural).

And the final coat was mostly drybrushed on and was Sand (Arena in spanish?)

I hope you enjoy these pics!
