Just got issue #3 of Kobold Quarterly in my inbox. I haven't had a chance to look at it closely (printing it out as we speak, but expect to run out of ink before it's done).

Articles

Ecology of the Lich by Richard Pett
Star & Shadow Magic by Wolfgang Baur
Arbeyach, Prince of Swarms by Ari Marmell
Hardboiled Adventures by Keith Baker
Edtime Stories (Interview with Ed Greenwood)
Ask the Kobold by Skip Williams
Optimizing Power Attack: The Mathematics of Combat by Jonathan Drain
More Than Dragon's Blood: More Ancestral Spirits for Sorcerers by John E. Ling, Jr.
Eight Ways to Up the Action: Easy Variants for Cinematic Combat by Benjamin Hayward
Dangerous Doors by Stephen S. Greer
The Free City: the Flying Traders of Sikkim by Wolfgang Baur

Next issue (in April)
Dragons & Hot Elf babes.
"Sex in D&D Expose"
A Hope of Angels (Angels as antagonists for the PCs)
Gnomes for 4th edition

Plus a few topics as possibilities (bardic instruments, why knights road horses, for example).

Now off to read the Keith Baker article (which I've been waiting for). More details tomorrow.

Edit: Don't forget the comic strips by Stan!

Also, you can see Arbeyach, Prince of Swarms at the artist's blog.

I recently recieved a solicitation by post to subscribe- have you looked at previous issues and found them to be good?

It has grown to 60 pages and seems to have more adds. I guess it may be one of the few places you can still see full page adds for RPGs...

EDIT: It also has a more "commercial" looking cover, and WB notes they are moving to "broader newstand distribution".

While I'll get to picking up the 3rd issue this week, I actually am REALLY looking forward to the 4th isue based on the "Next Issue" blurb.

I do, absolutely. Well worth the subscription price.

KQ is simply the strongest D&D periodical around. It's authors include Ed Greenwood, Keith Baker, Rob Schwalb, and dozens more of the industries best (not to mention Wolfgang, whose writings are worth their word count in gp as far as I'm concerned). I have been blown away by the content of all three issues thus far. Definitely worth five time what I paid for them (so cheap and good!!!).
