Ter-raen nods at Erf's suggestion. "Clear out this floor is good. Less surprises. House of bad omen, surprises never tend to be good for people. Come." Ter-raen adjusts his shield on his left arm, placing it left and close to his body. His right arms wields his scimitar, a firm grip but not in a combat-ready position. "We finish check this floor, then go up." Ter-raen moves towards the hearth on the left, prodding it with his scimitar, before heading to the door on the right.

Gildrim grunts. "Thaur's sense in checkin' awwhaur sae thaur's nae chance ay anythin' creepin' up oan us. But thaur's sense in leavin' as suin as we find th' Urn, sae as we dinnae hae tae meet everythin'. Naw whaur wad Ah shaw aff mah deid forebeirs if Ah war sae inclined? An' yit, Thorne did say we can keep ony valuables we tak a fancy tay, athin reason. Och weel, it'll tak mair than a wee dab ay spider poison tae lay low a dwarf. An' it's a shame tae come sae far an' nae see th' whole hoose."

Erf's quick search fails to turn up anything else of interest, and Ter-raen's poking only smears dirt around the hearth. (ooc: taking 10 on search for 12 and 9, respectively)

After some conversation, the party reforms in front of the single door to the right of the entrance. Ter-raen cautiously pulls on the door, which swings open easily, revealing a room with a large fireplace against the north wall. Several chairs and tables are placed around this room in small clusters, and the walls are decorated with ruined paintings.

ooc: I think I detected consensus to go ahead and open this door, but it would be nice if I didn't have to guess. An "I open the door" would be helpful, though I don't plan on being a stickler about holding off on updating until I see it. Also, I've used the marching order that Halford described not long ago, which I'll continue to do until someone tells me otherwise.

[sblock=OOC]Good call on the door. I'm sure we were gonna open it anyway.[/sblock]

"Somebody don't like to draw." comments Ter-raen as he slowly walks into the room, looking at the paintings. Noticing Fenenn near him, Ter-raen asks, "Wolf smell anything?"

Erf moves in and again gives the room a cursory search, though he is staying behind the big fellas and does glance up anxiously periodically. Fenenn sniffs around.

If Erf seems nothing of immediate interest he follows through the set of double doors.

OOC: Erf is in a reactionary position at the moment following the bigger folks. But if nobody minds I'll say we go through the double doors to the north of the map.

Erf's search reveals nothing other than a pile of dessicated rat droppings in the fireplace. Even Fenenn isn't interested in sniffing around them for long.

ooc: Taking 10 again for Erf. I'll wait for one more person to chime in before moving on.

Ter-raen nods his head as if in agreement. "If wolf don't smell thing, then maybe nothing here. We go up, and get urn. Ter-raen... still don't feel comfortable with house of bad omen."

After a brief glance through the door into the painted room, Gildrim remains in the hallway. "Paintin's arenae mah thing," he says. "Let's muive oan."

OOC: it's been very difficult to make a connection to the site the last two days.

ooc: I've had intermittent trouble, too, though it sounds as though my issues have been much less severe than many people's. Hope they sort this out soon. In the meantime, we'll just have to carry on as best we can.

Quickly leaving behind the room with the fireplace, you open the double doors across from the entrance. Surprisingly, the large room that the creaking door exposes is not dark; a steady blue-white light shines from a tall candle high above the floor in one of the sockets of a tarnished brass chandelier. The other sockets are empty.

[sblock=spot DC 10]Strangely, there are no soot marks on the ceiling above the candle. Nor are there any signs of dripping wax below it.[/sblock]

The room illuminated by the cool light is spacious and open, with smooth wooden floors only slightly warped by time and damp. The ceiling is high and arched, with decorative relief patterns in crumbling plaster. Several heavier doors lead to the west, and two smaller doors lead north and south.
