Lost Eberron 4E Style: Combat over, Level up!

Hesh takes a moment to catch his breath after the attack, the sickening weakness having taken its hold. This place was not right. It did not look right. It did not feel right. It certainly did not smell right.

When Hesh hears the commotion from the other side of water, he makes his way with little caution. When he sees the corpse, he frowns. Ignoring the other, he takes a moment to examine the armor and the rest of the marks. Looking for something... anything... that would give him context. Was it a fellow member of the Thousand? Another brigade. Or something stranger?[sblock=OOC]Don't know what the appropriate check would be...[/sblock]When the golem addressed him, he distractedly answered. Ugh. Hobgoblin. Its such a bastardization. Ghaal'dar. That is the name of my people. 'Hobgoblin' sounds like you butchered golin'dar or something.[sblock=Goblin]Ghall'dar: Hobgoblins or "Mighty People" (and the name of the confederacy of goblinoids in Modern Darguun). Golin'dar: Goblins or "Quick People".[/sblock]Looking at the wizard, he points to the suit of armor. Magic, right? Wouldn't have survived otherwise. Looks unfit for the rest of you, so I'll have to take it.

Hesh looks over the body, but doesn't find anything that resembles a marking of station or achievement. The best option he can think of is the equipment itself. The weapons are rusted and useless, but from the carving of the haft, it looked expensive when new. The armor does radiate magic, and seems a perfect fit for Hesh. It is slightly damp from the wet sand, but otherwise in good shape. After a quick inspection, the warlord figures out that the armor has a special property.

[sblock=ooc]Curseforged Chain +1. A nat 5 on the roll to find anything interesting. Nothing noteworthy. I will be moving this along in a bit. I've got dishes to clean up from dinner.[/sblock]

The ragtag group of survivors return to a much-needed rest. The remainder of the morning passes without event. Sleep is hard to get, every sound reminds them of the undead assaults only hours before.

The sun rises in the morning behind a blanket of thick clouds. The rain has completely stopped, but things feel different. The jungle seems thicker and darker than before. The darkness beneath the trees seems more foreboding. What was a soft white sand beach before has changed seemingly as well. The sand is a light grey, marked with red from the battles fought upon it. Where the sand was light and soft before, now it feels rough, almost sharp, and seems to find itself under clothes and armor with relent.

A distance down the beach, the land rises up. The evenness of the beach gives way to cliffs, with the surf pounding the rocks below. Atop the cliffs, easily seen by The Lost, are ruins. You are sure those were not there before.

[sblock=ooc]Anybody going to use the power of the bedroll? Speak now. Also, I might not be able to update tomorrow(still check though). I'll be out of town until Tuesday.[/sblock]

The very land changes its clothes to confuse us, Stellan grumbles. We are in a cursed place. With mumbling complaints and a dark, suspicious glance sent repeatedly toward the ruins, the shifter goes about his morning routine, getting prepared for a day of battle. Would you mind if I wore that bauble during the day? he asks the warforged, indicating the headband they discovered earlier. I think it best if I handle the scouting, so any advantage would be useful.

[sblock=ooc] I didn't want to say anything earlier, as it made sense for the party, but the Headband of Perception was on my wish list. :) [/sblock]

"Here," Xandren says as he passes the headband to Stellan. "Yes, the scout should be the one to benefit from that which will help us avoid more surprises."

[sblock=OOC]No problem, Redclaw.[/sblock]

Nodding his thanks, the shifter dons the headband, and prepares to set out toward the ruins. I assume we're all in agreement that answers to our questions probably there. He looks around at the others for confirmation.

[sblock=ooc] Thanks, Garyh.
That's one of my few issues with 4E so far. The wishlists seem a bit too metagame-ish to me, and then there's always the question of how the DM makes sure the right PC gets each item, without just saying "The bag of holding has Stellan's name sewn into it," or something similar. Especially an issue if two characters request the same, or very similar items. [/sblock]

OOC: Hesh'll take the bedroll power if no one else does. He's been more front-line'n anyway...

Hesh takes the chain, but gives the hobgoblin a quick few words in goblin as part of a funereal ceremony. That done, he leaves it behind and moves on to rest.

The next day, he looks at the ruins with a look of exasperation. This place is likely to ruin the Little One's mind. Guess the only way through this trap is through. Lets hitch.

A somewhat disheveled looking Lorn stumbles out of the wreck, holding a hand up against the grey morning light. He looked around trying to gain his bearings, he had momentarily forgotten being stranded in this strange place. Finally his eyes fell on the ruin on the cliffs overlooking the beach. A frown creased his face, and he stared at it for a long time before finally he spoke.

Where in the name of the host did that come from?

He looked around at the others as though one of them might actually be able to give him an answer. Finally he sighed as though giving up.

I think we're going to have to go up there, aren't we...

Better get prepared.

With that he set about on a host of task. Fire for breakfast, packing a few of the "plates" from the wreck, and searching the other wrecks nearby for anything that might be useful, as well as filling up his water skin (well upstream of the battle).

[sblock=ooc]

Yeah should let Hesh use the bedroll then, he seems to attract damage. :)

[sblock=ooc]I got my hands on a PHBII a day early! It's now an open source if you wish to use it. I'm off for the next week, (except for tonight, I'll be out of town)so rapid posting is an option for people.[/sblock]

The Lost gather what supplies they have found thus far. A few of the plates as well as some smoked crocodile. Several items change hands, and Hesh wakes up refreshed and ready to go, the magic of the bedroll consumed for a while.

They set off, up the incline towards the ruins. The way is steep in some places, but they make it near the top. As they reach the level ground, grass gives way to what you thought was stone. It is hard, but a bleached white color. Soon you realize that it is bone that you are walking on.

You come up to the entrance to the ruins. A wall circles around the place, and you come right up to a wrought iron gate that stands partially ajar. The flagstones, also appearing to be made of bone, are cracked and thrust upward in places. Dead brown grass springs up in the cracks. The remains of towers stand to the left and right. One is just a pile of rubble. The other is partially standing. Further inside, you can see the remains of more buildings, some collapsed, some not.

Not particularly stealthy, Hesh keeps his eyes on the towers. Think there's a way around to the back? Best keep the enemy unaware of where you're coming from.
