GM: Looks like tonight isn't going to happen, bed tomorrow for early X-mas tomorrow. I'll post in the next three days, but I don't know when I'll have time with Holiday stuff - could be as late as the 26th.

Happy Holidays everyone.

Stalking the Prey, Surprise Round

The attack comes out of nowhere, sinewy creatures with immense, wicked claws and gray fur that shimmers amidst the mist appearing out of the dense, chill fog like ghosts as four death motes drift down the cliff face Eithal was scaling.

Arcs of necromantic energy shoot down into the group from the motes, hitting their targets a split second before the creatures that have been stalking the party through the woods attack, inflicting serious wounds on Yishim and Salgyn and minor ones on Kaz, their fur shimmering as they rake with their claws.

OOC: Just verifying that a surprise round consists of one action..doing my turn with this assumption

Fredrock quickly moves to engage the new foes. Eithal, you get the ones to the west, I'll occupy these to the north. Well, at least the ones on the ground..

OOC: Retconning actions...due to less actions of the enemies and not being able to use an AP during a surprise round.

[sblock=actions]
'Ready action' equip shield
Move: to D14 (I think I can get there without going thru difficult terrain..if not, since it's exactly 5 squares away, i'll run if I have to get there)

Can Kaz pop Avenger's resolve like last time? (resist 5 all damage EONT)

GM: When surprised you can't even take free actions. Unless it's "No Action" then you can't do it when surprised.

During Surprise round you get one standard action, yes. I'm assuming Fredrock used Eithal's granted "ready action" to get his shield ready(since it's a standard action vs a minor for a weapon).

Eithal surges forward, cutting into the nearest creature her axe can reach, "No problem Freddie!"[sblock=Actions]Standard: Charge to I4
Target: RRS1
Attack: 1d20+10+1=19 vs. AC for 1d12+6=12 damage
Free: Mark RRS1

Don't know if that hit, so I'll wait to post more fluff until I know.

Feats:

Sudden Roots: Whenever Eithal hits an enemy with an Opportunity Attack, that enemy is slowed until the end of its next turn.

Crushing Earthstrength: When Eithal uses her second wind, she gains a +4 bonus to her weapon damage rolls until the end of her next turn.

Guard of Stone: While Eithal is under the effect of her stone’s endurance racial power, each enemy marked by Eithal takes an additional penalty to attack rolls for attacks that don’t include Eithal as a target. The penalty equals her Constitution modifier and lasts until the end of her next turn. [/sblock]

OOC: DM: PHB Page 267 says:
If you get to act in the surprise round, you can take a standard action, a move action, or a minor action. You can also take free actions, but you can't spend action points.
Has this been errata'd away?

In any case, you're the DM, just asking.

Has this been errata'd away?

GM: It hasn't been errata'd. I say one standard action since you can always convert a standard to a move to a minor if desired. Their description is somewhat redundant.

@Dekana, You're right, Toeto is up too.

Also, Xeterog just pointed out that I screwed up and forgot it was a surprise round when I was running the monsters. I've got to run, but I'll finish fixing it when I get back.
