D&D 5E Do you ever create a PC off a mini?

That is, have you ever just looked or taken a mini and decided that that's the type of PC you want to play, or do you have an idea of what you want to play and find a mini that's close enough?

I probably do more of the latter, but sometimes there is a mini that really inspires me. One of the reasons I really miss those 3-pack progression sets that Ral Partha used to do (3 stages of the same character, but with better equipment).

Some of my favorite characters of all time were based on these minis, and wouldn't have been archetypes I would have selected without the mini (like the wizard being an old man as a level 1 magic user when I started with him)

this one was from the aforementioned 3-pack

I do not recall if I ever chose a miniature as a model from which to create a full playing character, but I have used mini's as inspiration to create other characters, such as monsters. For example, after seeing the Rackham Confrontation figures the Alchemists of Dirz, I used them as inspiration for some hordes of living constructs in an Eberron campaign I was running a few years ago.

I had that first mini! (And perhaps the last.) Dang, that's old. :)

One of my more memorable characters was around a mini of a halfling in full plate. Ah, AD&D 2nd ed. You know, after he found a pair of gauntlets of ogre strength for 18/00 to go with his already high dex he was really a force to be reckoned with.

We don't use minis, but I do the same with artwork found around the internet. When I have a rough idea for a character, I often check Google image search, DeviantArt, etc. for art that would fit my idea and then build the rest of the character (appearance, weapons, and armor) based on that.

I usually make the miniature to match my character. I'll post some up to photobucket and post them up. Currently I'm sculpting my Goliath Eldritch Knight.
