D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Storm King's Thunder: Waterdeep

Steve Gorak

Adventurer
The next morning the trolls are passed out in the yard under watch by a number of guards. Some curious people have started... watching.

Davaros will meet with hic compannions, then walk to the trolls, and wake them. "Friends, take us to the evermoors where the giants are causing you hardship. We want to help"

OOC: persuation [roll0] plus guidance on tap [roll1]

I say we go to the evermoors to assess the situation, and then see about heading to the elk barbarians.

After getting enough supplies for two weeks, and extra for the trolls, Gul met the others, riding his black horse.
OOC:
Evermoors first sounds good to me.
Just to be clear, my horse is not on the menu for the trolls! Gul will hopefully know some minor magics like prestidigitation which can preserve the troll food to some extent.

Though I imagine trolls could stomach some pretty rotten fare, with their constitutions!

OOC: We're not going nitty gritty on travel details and such generally.

The Evermoors is a vast, unsettled area of fog-shrouded hills, cold bogs, rocky ridges, and small peaks. Adventurers crossing this expanse might spot the occasional castle ruin or crumbled tower—a remnant of a bygone realm. Although the region attracts many prospectors, no kingdom or civilization in recent history has been able to tame it. Savage hill giants, ettins, ogres, orcs, and trolls dwell here in great numbers. Settlements that stand on the edge of the Evermoors face constant threats from these and other monsters.

Hanz and Franz seem adept and walking the swamp even up to their waist in water. They occasionally stop to make strange gestures to each other and comment about their surroundings. So long as they're well fed they don't seem to easily discouraged.

Several hours into your trip they stop and peer at something in the distance. One says, "Meat."

The other then says, "No."

A few hundred paces ahead strapped to the remnants of a lightning cracked tree is what appears to be the carcass of a troll, hands and head rended off with scorch marks. The carcass seems halfway propped up on the tree.

Hanz and Franz gesture towards a rope noose frayed and hanging from the same stump. In unison they speak, "Yoke."

As Whistler climbs back onto the roof, and begins removing bits of grass and straw from his coat that were picked up in the fight, Bellalalalalinda notes the predawn light beginning to emerge on the horizon. The small gnome wants to head back to maintain her vigil. Assuming she doesn't see Roco awake and in the tavern having breakfast, she'll resume her post outside his door.

She has not been changed by anything so far to change her view about travelling with him, though she will admit there are perhaps greater dangers now.

She will offer to track when they do get going.

(sorry -- that was conceived before I saw the last post.)

As they begin the trip, Bellalalalinda is following the trail. It's pretty straightforward, but she begins to see signs of another troll's passing before they come across the body in the tree.

These are odd companions, and she is touched at how Whistler insists on keeping himself between her and the two troll s travelling with them.

"Who would have done this?" she asks incredulously.

"That's helpful," says Bellalalalinda, who then spends a minute looking around for signs of a fire giant, smelling for brimstone on the breeze. With a gesture she casts a minor illusion to remove the more horrific features of the corpse. She's not sure what a serene troll would look like, and it probably didn't have the eyelashes she has imagined for it, but it's clearly an improvement.

(primeval awareness will give number, direction, and distance w/in 5 miles of any humanoids and/or giants)

There are definitely signs of a large number of giants to the northwest.

You also get an odd sense of something... above you. In the clouds above you can make out a castle occasionally appearing in the sky. Thar be giants there.

The small gnome looks up, waaaaay up.

And suddenly she is worried. She passes the information to her companions. "Northwest or Southeast?" she asks.

"Shame we can't fly, since that probably is the cloud giant who was controlling the puppets! Let's go a bit further northwest and see if we can scout out their base, maybe pick off an individual or two?"
