While I don't remember the movie well enough to remember plot details, being lawful doesn't mean you follow every law, that would be stupid.
If a LG person walks across the border to a country where slavery is legal it doesn't mean they're going on a buying spree. Unless of course it's to buy slaves, give them some money and grant them their freedom.
